I could not disagree more. Ted Williams, Ozzie Smith, Babe Ruth etc... these guys signed millions of autographs and they were legible. I won't buy an autograph of someone I can't read and I don't care how much I like the guy.

who frickin cares. you are buying the autograph for who the player is, what he stands for, or what he has accomplished in the game. if you are buying his autograph b/c of the way "it looks" then you are by far in the minority and just....weird...

the guy signs (along with every other famous MLB player) like tens of thousands of autographs per year...i'm surprised more autos from other players are not up to "standard"

In their defence, that's a horrendous autograph.

When Swisher puts a letter that's actually in his name in his autograph (i see an L), then complain.

It looks like he wrote "Ejel"

you are seriously going to tell me that if ozzie's signature was illegible, you wouldn't collect him? after all he did to dazzle you as a kid with his black flips and amazing fielding? your childhood hero?

you found out his signature looked like it was written by Big Bird with Parkinson's...you wouldn't collect him?

Yea, a players autograph really matters to me.

One of the main reasons I collected Huston Street was because he had an awesome signature.

totally not UD's fault
blame Swisher

I have a feeling that UD dumbs up the sticker process for the players. Probably has huge letters that says - this way is UP.

I would still collect his cards but no, if his autograph was as terrible as many of the young players I would not buy a single autograph, period.

People like to list any number of ridiculous reasons/excuses for the new players and their absolutely terrible signatures. The fact of the matter is this, they are lazy.
Mickey Mantle signed more autographs than all the prospects combined and his last autograph looked as good as his first. Prospects sit down with a gaudy sheet full of stickers and just completely scribble nonsense over and over again.
I don't care if I had to sign a million autographs I would do it with pride because I am getting paid to do it. Does this make me a better person than your typical player? Yes it does...just not as wealthy.

Oh, anyone that thinks that these players sign, or will sign, 1/1000th of the autographs than an Ozzie Smith or a Cal Ripken has/does is delusional.

Wait a minute...Nick Swisher is famous?

Seriously...I have to agree...if a players auto looks like crap I may only buy one of them and then continue on.I have a nice chunk of Rollie Fingers just because I love the way it looks. These guys could stand to make a more legible autograph.I know if I sign my name I try to make it somewhat legible.Hell...we were taught that in first grade.Maybe Nick and a few of these other players didn't go to school?

It definitely matters to me. I wouldn't get more than 1 auto of a guy who has a lousy signature.

I see 7 Justin Jackson Autos in your signature. You don't see that being a lousey signature. Look at it, he signed it JTJL. I would much rather have a Nick Swisher Auto which isn't just 4 cursive letters, one of which isn't in his name.

Justin Jackson's isn't that bad. I've seen at least 50 others that are worse. At least I can tell it's his auto rather than a bunch of squiggles of which none of the squiggles are in his name from that I can tell.

I dont know.....

JJ's auto is pretty much on par with the signing abilities of Nick, and quality control of UD.

Had I not read this post I never would have known whether his auto was rightside up or upside down. In addition to Bannister & Broadway, I think the Johan Santana has the best and most legible auto.

Nope

Mariano Rivera "has the best and most legible auto."

I've always loved Harmon Killebrew's autograph.
