After all the talk to who should be in and who shouldn't be in, I started to get curious about what makes a HOFer. So here are the 162 game averages (with career fielding percentage) of 5 players. 3 of them are in the Hall of Fame, 2 didn't get the required 5% on their first ballot.

HOFStats-1.jpg

Player A - Bobby Doerr - HOF
Player B - Andres Galarraga - 4.1% votes
Player C - Mark Grace - 4.1% votes
Player D - Ozzie Smith - HOF
Player E - Ryne Sandberg - HOF

Giving numbers without identifying eras is deceptive. You can't compare guys from the 1990s to guys from the 1960s.

Okay, only player A didn't start their career after 1975.

As well as positions. If one is a power-hitting outfielder (possibly B) and another is a defensive second baseman (possibly D - Ozzie) you can't compare. And this would be exact proof of why you cannot compare polayers at different positions.

The Hall of Fame is NOT 100% about offensive numbers, especially power numbers, yet that is all that is shown here. And yes, D is Ozzie.

Okay, I went an edited the first post with some more info. And I showed all offensive numbers, not just power numbers, except GDP, SF, and IBB.

Bobby Doerr was the best fielding secondbaseman in his time....he held many fielding records for his position.

Plus, he wasn't too shabby with the bat. ;)

I'm not arguing anything. I posted stats, and before 10:30 this morning, with 12 votes in the poll, I posted which positions each player played.
