The trade of Michael Young got me thinking how players rarely stay with one team their entire career. Except for Jeter and Rivera, gone are the days of players like Brett, Yount, Mattingly, Puckett, Yaz, Mantle, etc. playing for one team their entire career.

Wright and Mauer look like they may be lifers, but who knows? No one thought Willie Mays would become a Met.

So on your favorite team, who is the longest tenured current player?

Mauer. There has been talk and some fans out there that want to see him and his contract moved, but I think he needs to be a Twin for life. Born and raised here, no reason for him to leave.

But I think we are heading back into that direction. Teams are locking up their franchise players to extremely long contracts (Kemp, Longoria, Votto, Zimmerman, Wright). I'm sure I'm missing a few.

For those who named players like Gwynn, I meantcurrent players. Every team in its history has players who played most or all of their careers there.
But among current players, who's the longest tenured?

I don't believe in the history of the A's (even back to Philadelphia) there has ever been a star that spent his whole career with the team. If only Eric Chavez would have retired instead of going to the Yankees.

Currently the longest tenured A's are Daric Barton (who probably won't make the team next year and spent most of 2012 in AAA) and reliever Jerry Blevins. Both started in 2007. So sad.

Until the middle of last year, it was Brandon Inge for the Tigers (2001). Now it's Verlander who had a cup of coffee in 2005 and stuck in 2006.

As was stated, it's Corey Hart from draft-day forward, although Rickie Weeks made his debut before Hart.

In the end, it looks like Braun, or possibly Gallardo, will hold the honor. Corey will most likely be gone after next season, if not sooner. I'm not really sure what Week's future will be.
