I voted for the Royals before looking, and I have to say I'm surprised they were 75-87 last year. That's at least 10 games better than I thought. Could things finally be coming together for the Royals, who I always had a warm spot for? Me and my Billy Butler collection hope so.

Orioles are getting better but their division is tough with the Yankees, Red Sox, and Rays. They'll need a really bad season from one of them just to get into 3rd. Besides Markakis, Mora, and Brian Roberts they don't have a ton of All-Star caliber experience. Liz, Weiters, Adam Jones, Pie, and co. need more than 2009 to show their stuff.

KC also has a tough division. Greinke, Gordon, Butler (where does he play?), Hochevar, Soria, Aviles, Kila: All very young, all very talented but they need to all start clicking starting with Alex Gordon.

Padres are desolate. The Giants got exponentially better, Dodgers will resign Manny and be the team to beat, and the more than solid Diamondbacks should only improve with Upton having a huge year. Antonelli, Headley, Venable, and Hundley won't emerge as solid hitters at the same time so they're left with Adrian Gonzalez and Kevin Kouzmanoff. Kouz will be an All-Star though. Peavy will be moved and they can only hope one of their young pitchers pans out. The only baseball related event to look forward to at Petco is the WBC.

As is the theme, the Nats are in a tough spot. Phili, the Mets, and Florida pose all sorts of problems and despite a bad 2008, the Braves are making moves to win this year. I can see Balester becoming the ace this year, Olson--who knows, and rest of the rotation is a wash. With the bats: Zimmerman and Milledge will be about the only players doing much but I expect big things from Lastings.

Pirates are bad too, and they won't even be close to the playoffs, but I don't see them being as awful as the above teams for some reason. Seattle and Texas need to find hitting and pitching, respectively, and they could make some noise if they do.

Pirates.

And for me it was easy. Sure, the Padres are bad, but their division is arguably the poorest in the game. The Pirates haven't sniffed the playoffs since 1992 and will probably make it an even 20 years in 2012 still without making it.

Orioles. They are certainly not the worst team on that list but they have to overcome 2 or 3 teams in a given year to have a shot.

Pirates have nothing going for them. Their big league team sucks and they only have a handful of prospects that even look like they are gonna be any good in the majors. Pedro Alvarez was a huge draft pick for them though.

A very valid argument, but they have arguably the best top-5 prospect list of any team in the Majors. I could see them possibly pulling out a wildcard in about 5 years when those guys have all made it to the big leagues (similar road to success as the 2008 Rays in that they grew their own talent).

I picked the Orioles. I feel they could have the best future talent of all the teams listed, but how are they going to be able to beat out two of the three power houses in the AL East to have a shot at getting into the playoffs?. I do not see that happening anytime soon
