Hi all,

Received this item from ebay for my Jim Fregosi collection. It is a 1968 Sports Illustrated poster. Love seeing the old uniform, along with the halo helmet.
I am a huge fan of Jim and this will take a proud place in my library. Had seen it listed for many months at $25, but it seemed priced way too high. Recently, the seller put it on sale for only $6.25 so I didn't hesitate. It is in astonishingly mint condition for its age. Going to pick up a poster frame for it this weekend, hopefully. Picture is from ebay auction. Thanks for looking! :)

Thanks, Scotty! Not as vintage as your pickups, but still 41 years old! :D

May I ask, why are you a Jim Fregosi fan?

Just curious - I think it's awesome that you are. I just like hearing the why.

Now you've done it! You made the mistake of getting me to talk about Jim! :D

All started back in late 70's when Jim (former Angel player) signed as the manager of the team. I had always loved the California Angels of the 1970's. Soon after becoming the manager, he appeared at a free local signing (belated shoutout to Anaheim Patio and Fireside) and I got to meet him in person:

He signed the baseball I am holding in the picture, though the 'graph has now faded almost completely away, I still have the ball. To say I was nervous at the time of the photo would be an understatement. The day was also one of the greatest in my life because my late mom took the picture (still have the original photo, too!)

He was super friendly to us, talked for awhile, shook my hand and thanked us for supporting the team. From that moment on, he became one of my alltime favorites. I followed his career as manager through the years and collect oddball items of him (like the poster) whenever I can. Some of the interesting Fregosi items I own are local issue items like matchcovers, stadium giveaway posters, and even a postcard he autographed for a fan and sent from Spring Training in his rookie year. Luckily, Fregosi items are pretty much affordable. Overall, I only have about 50 different items of his and am always on the lookout for more.

Aren't you glad you asked?

I am glad I asked! Great story - awesome pic. Similar story to my Don Zimmer collection, I started following him after he started managing the Cubs in 1989, and decided to build a Zimmer collection a few years back with all the oddball and regional issues like you enjoy.

although I already know why you collect Fergosi I still enjoy reading the story behind it every time. that poster is pretty cool and I never knew that the Angels had halos on their helmets. they should go back to that it looks awesome.

Wow, that is a fantastic Zim site you created! Lots of information, cool design. I like the 1982 Rangers scorecard in the collectibles section; perfect pic of Zim with a big smile! Well done!

Yeah, I like the halo effect, too. I have a replica hat from their days with the halo on top in my collection.
