I find it amusing how much of a "right now" crowd this is. I mean, Zack Greinke, Matt Cain and Justin Verlander are having GREAT seasons, but look at their careers. Last season, not one of you would have ONE of them guys in the top ten. I mean, why not throw in Kevin Slowey. Just because they are dominating right now, doesn't mean they are top ten overall material, especially Greinke and Verlander... although Cain is a beast and will be there soon.

Honestly, no NL pitcher should be in the debate in my opinion. When comparing the quality of the lineups and the fact that the NL pitchers get to pitch against an opposing pitcher (almost an automatic out) and do not have to face the DH every day, it really is no comparison in my opinion. Also, the large majority of pitching friendly parks reside in the NL (NYM, SD, LA, ARI, etc.) As much as I like Lincy and Haren and Johan, I believe if you put them in the AL East, you would see a SIGNIFICANT change in their stats. I also believe that Peavy is the most overrated pitcher in the game. With all of that said, I voted for Halladay and Josh Beckett.

Uhh, Johan was the CYA winner in the AL where he pitched just as good as he does now, so that point is moot.

No Grienke, Verlander, or Carpenter...epic fail.

terrible poll...sorry.

I'm not even saying I'd vote for either of those 3, but your title states: who are the best 2 starting pitchers in baseball?

If you are going to have a guy on the DL on this list, then you may want to have every pitcher that SHOULD be considered.

What does sure mean?

Peavy and Webb are both on the DL and aren't better right now than Grienke, Verlander, and Carpenter.

Its actually really quite easy. Forget Grienke, hes this years Cliff Lee. ( a good pitcher with a great year) If he continues on the same path Lincy will certainly be in mix.

AL - Halladay

NL - Carpenter

I'm not going to argue who should and shouldn't be in the poll. If you don't like the selection, then don't vote... it's as simple as that. I don't get why people have to come into a poll and start this crap. Make your own damn poll if you need to control the world.

If you are going to do something, do it correctly. To maintain the integrity of the board this thread should be deleted....your poll is that bad.

This is quite possibly the stupidest reply I have ever seen on a message board... no seriously, it's THAT stupid.

I agree that this poll is flawed but the thing is, it is HIS poll! Instead of stating how bad or flawed it is, just take it with a grain of salt as everyone else does & understand that the results are not showing the board's opinion as to "who the best 2 starting pitcher's are"; the results are showing the board's opinion as to "who the best 2 starting pitcher's are ON THIS PARTICULAR POLL"!
On a different note, I enjoy many of the "homer" pick's (but then again this poll is asking for an opinion, & though an opinion can be wrong it still doesn't make it anyless of an opinion). Personally I am a huge Houston Astros fan, but even I will admit that Roy Oswalt doesn't belong in this discussion (unless the poll is wanting us to look at career production & if this is so, Lincecum should be nowhere near this list yet)! I believe Greinke & Johan are the 2 best in baseball (#1a & #1b) at the moment, with Doc & Haren trailing a close #2a & #2b! :D

I didn't realize people didn't know these pitchers have been dominant for a LONG (besides Lincecum, but his selection speaks for itself) time. The short-sightedness of some here is quite revealing. Every pitcher on this list can run circles around Zack Greinke, Justin Verlander and Matt Cain, BEFORE this season, and if I would have put them on the list last season, I would have been called an idiot. There is more to baseball than the current season.

I agree with you in the matter that before this year Greinke, Verlander, & Cain would have been a flawed selection for choice's put in this category, BUT your initial question for this poll leaves alot to be interpreted (as the reader doesn't know if your asking whom is the best "this year", who is the best from a career standpoint, or who is the best going forward...etc.). Maybe there needs to be a little more clarity to the question before we start throwing those giving thier opinion's off a bridge for thier "short-sightedness"? :D

It's Johan Santana and Roy Halladay.

Career dominance + 2009 dominance. Even mentioning guys like Carpenter and Verlander is ridiculous. You could make legitemate cases for Haren and Lincecum as well, but it's Johan and Doc.
