Who are the two best starting pitchers in baseball

I think the OP got the top three right in the poll ordering. Those three are the pitchers of the decade as 2010 approaches.

It's Johan Santana and Roy Halladay.

Career dominance + 2009 dominance. Even mentioning guys like Carpenter and Verlander is ridiculous. You could make legitemate cases for Haren and Lincecum as well, but it's Johan and Doc.

to the author, just an idea to always put an option for "other" - its always amusing what some people may come up with, plus it avoids the "lousy poll without this or that"....just a thought...

Honestly, no NL pitcher should be in the debate in my opinion. When comparing the quality of the lineups and the fact that the NL pitchers get to pitch against an opposing pitcher (almost an automatic out) and do not have to face the DH every day, it really is no comparison in my opinion. Also, the large majority of pitching friendly parks reside in the NL (NYM, SD, LA, ARI, etc.) As much as I like Lincy and Haren and Johan, I believe if you put them in the AL East, you would see a SIGNIFICANT change in their stats. I also believe that Peavy is the most overrated pitcher in the game. With all of that said, I voted for Halladay and Josh Beckett.

Uhh, Johan was the CYA winner in the AL where he pitched just as good as he does now, so that point is moot.

That is how I see it too. Cain deserves a mention but he isn't even going to be able to crack this list for maybe another 2-3 years since he is just starting to get run support and is developing as a pitcher, plus is younger than Lincecum but has around 40 more starts than him.

How could it not? if one interprets the thread as who is the best right now in this season only, then how would it NOT cause some people to change their opinion to say someone like Verlander? ::facepalm::
