Every year I pick a player or 2 from the draft and pick up some of their key rookies - if I like them, I keep going after them (2nd, 3rd year cards). Here's what I've done the last few years:

2004....Kevin Jones - bought quite a bit, stopped when he got traded
2005....Cadillac Williams - bought a lot of his stuff, but I eventually stopped when he wasn't putting up numbers. Hype was >>>>>>>>> than actual performance.
2006...Joseph Addai and Maurice Jones Drew. Still collecting both to this day!
2007...Never really followed/liked anyone from this draft...I picked up a couple AP rookies, but I'm calling this a "flop" year because I never really latched on to a player.
2008...Mendenhall and Manningham. Just 2 guys that I liked at the Rookie Premier and Mendenhall was an absolute beast at Illinois.

now onto 2009.....

I'm having trouble deciding who to go after. I'd prefer somebody with a lot of cards available (will be in most, if not all releases this year).

I like Crabtree's potential, but I'm still sour about the Texas vs. Tech game. (I'm a HUUUUUUUUUUUGE Longhorns fan). I don't really like QB's, so Harrel, Sanchez, and Stafford are out. As you can tell from my list above, I like RB's and WR's - siding heavily with RB's.

With that said, a few players I was thinking of:

- Ian Johnson (dominated OU with his trick play shennanigans - I'll love him forever for that!!! DOWN WITH OU  ).
- Percy Harvin (beastly)
- Pat White (just to mix it up. I enjoyed watching him play at WV)
- Jeremiah Johnson - Idk...just a solid RB

Anyone got any advice on how to decide or who I should go after? What 2009 rookies are you guys chasing this year? I know Ryo is a huge Crabtree fan, but what about the rest of you? Throw some names up here so I can get some ideas :)

Thanks for reading.

As a Giants fan I'm probably going to pick up as many Hakeem Nicks cards as i can. I loved Percy Harvin Florida!! He can do so many things to beat you, I just love watching him play football, so if i get the opportunity to pick up some of his stuff then im definitely going to!

I'm collecting U of Missouri players (Maclin, Chase Daniel, Chase Coffman, Ziggy Hood, William Moore).

Ran track with Maclin's brother in high school and saw him play there and at MU - its the closest I've ever been connected with a pro-athlete and he was a great guy so I thought a player collection of Maclin would be appropriate. I was actually glad to see him fall in the draft somewhat to hopefully make his prices a little lower. Still expensive as heck though and there is no way I will be able to get half of what I wanted to.

Mike Thomas (primary focus)
Michael Crabtree, Glen Coffee (these two a bit more on the side for my 49ers stash)

I would say Pat White and Crabtree.I am doing both of those.I like Harrell a lot but sadly I am not too sure about his future in the NFL.

Just the Dallas rookies, and any former Hurricanes that sneak into Bowman or something.

Since you went after Manningham, do you have any interest in this? I had it worked into a trade on another board, and the guy turned up as a ripper that night, so I still have it.

kinda a neat idea to select some draft picks and collect them. Seems totally random, or does team or anything have to do with it?

FOR ME and as most others, it's either a particular team or player.
SO, last year I went after as many Owen Schmitts, Justin Forsetts and of course, my main man, John Carlson.
This year I want to focus on Aaron Curry as much as possible. I REALLY hope he helps the defense right away, lord knows we need it!
IF anyone busting the new wax pulls a Hawk rookie and wants to trade or sell, PLEASE let me know!

Same, except I'll be collecting good players (Falcons players) on a great team (the Falcons).

Louis Delmas if he has anything out this year.. Otherwise, some other Defensive rookie on the Lions. Think stafford will cost way too much.

I always go after my Texas Longhorn players - but I pick a few extra guys to mix it up. The teams don't really have anything to do with it. I WILL NOT, I reapeat WILL NOT collect a guy from Oklahoma or USC - absolutely can't stand either of them.

I also like to go towards sleeper guys...aka inexpensive players. Manningham for example - not too expensive to buy his stuff. I can pick up autos and patches all day long for good prices.

Mendenhall wasn't that way at first, but his prices have gone way down - not as low as Manningham, but he's affordable. I like to go after football during this time of year...most people are in baseball mode, and there's a ton of new releases.

Thanks for the responses guys! Keep them coming :)
