Just fun and a little debating. What players that are playing right now or recently retired do you think are a HOF lock?

Duncan
Kobe
Shaq
Jason Kidd
Nash? Back to back MVP but how much of that was the system he was playing in?

Just wanted to comment on Nash - Personally I'd be of the mindset that it was probably more so Nash making the "system" work, rather than Nash being dominant due to the "system".

When you think about it he's been the constant - it was done on two teams (Dallas and Phoenix). Done with a cast of players. Some that have played well without him, some that clearly played better because of him. And more than one head coach (not like Mike D's "system" has caught the world on fire without Nash in NY).

To me a Hall of Famer is someone where you go back and think of a decade (or 8-10 year period) - that player was clearly one of the top guys at their position.....think Nash would fit into that discussion.

I would add Pierce and Garnett to the list. I agree with those you listed.

Pau Gasol seems like the only guy that hasn't been mentioned that would be close.

Career averages of about 19ppg 9rpg 3apg with almost 2bpg while shooting high percentages from the field and free throw line. Also has 2 rings now and probably should have a finals MVP to his name too.

My locks:

Tim Duncan
Shaq
Kobe
Garnett
Pierce
Dirk
Allen Iverson
LeBron
Ray Allen
Jason Kidd

Just missed:

Chauncey Billups
Pau Gasol
Wade
Dwight Howard
Chris Paul
(those last two just need a few more seasons; I'd say they were locks, but haven't been in the league long enough)

eight All-Star selections, and a Rookie of the Year award
will reach 20,000 points next season

Tony Parker because of the titles and mvp

I thought about Vince, but I think his image as a quitter and not putting in 100% effort for the majority of his career will hurt him in voting.

I bet Grant Hill will get a few looks. It's pretty remarkable what he's doing now.

Grant Hill is an interesting one.

Would they factor in Hill's college career when deciding on him?
Isn't the basketball hall of fame different in the sense it isn't just a "professional" or "NBA" hall of fame, taking into account all contributions or something like that? Anyone know how that works......because there may be a case for him if it really does take into account, college, NBA, international, contributions in general, etc.

I hope Grant Hill gets in. He's always been a favorite player of mine, and it's really remarkable how he puled through his ankle injury and the following staph infection to come back hard, and then a second resurrection with the Suns.

While Hill has been a fan favorite not sure he would get in. Had he not been so injury prone then it wouldn't even be in question but I don't think he has really been a force in the game because of injuries. Looking at his numbers they honestly aren't even good, only 15,523 points in 16 seasons is not HOF worthy. Maybe if he can stay healthy enough to get over 20,000 he might get some votes.

I'm a huge Lakers fan but one guy that is still young and I think will definitely make it if he keeps it up is Rondo.

There's no other PG like him right now and I honestly think he's going to be top 5 in the MVP voting as long as the Celtics are still in the mix. If he can win one or even two more championships (which I hope he doesn't), I think he's got a pretty decent shot.

I know it's been three games, but he's averaging 10.7 ppg, 6.3 rpg, 16.7 apg, and 2.0 steals. This kid is unbelievably fun to watch.

I'll agree if he can develop a better jumpshot. He has improved but still needs some work. Damn, once he does develop one lookout. He will be one of the best guards in the game.

I'm just going to throw it out there now, but between passing, defense and rebounding he should already be considered one of the best guards in the game.

That said, I'm starting to wonder if we're getting to the point in his career where we have to stop saying "if he develops a jump shot." It's such a glaring hole in his game that you would think that's what he would focus on year round in practice, but he still hasn't shown a drastic improvement. I think the key with him will just be efficient scoring. He'll never be a 20-25 ppg guy like Chris Paul, but he should always be a 12-15 ppg player with a .500+ shooting percentage.
