So was the post geared towards bigwigs or ebay sellers (or both)?

Even in your post you had bigwigs (UD guy, Beckett) and then ebay seller (Shoeless Joe/Kevin B)

I hate being lied to about stuff. It has happened

I hate being told a contest will take place and then it doesn't

I hate HSN and QVC sales pitches on cards

I love reading about people/groups that help each other out

it will be locked if it turns into a flame war.
thats exactly what it will turn in to. posts such as this are nothing but trolling posts IMO and will be exactly that by page 2.
Excuse me? Trolling posts?
This thread wasn't meant to pit members against one another.
As I wrote in the original thread, it's about the industry's bigtime companies, executives, dealers, etc. who have damaged the hobby.
If a few tools on this board want to turn this into something else, then I'm all for locking the thread.

I don't think he was saying that was your point of this topic, but rather these topics pretty much always turn into a war, whether they are intended to do so or not.

As far as Don West goes, definitely a classic. Didn't he end up becoming a wrestling commentator at some point?

Executives, companies, large ebay sellers who scam collectors out of thousands.
Not a common idiot on a message board who annoys people, or a member who went bad or a trade or deal.
Just the bigshots in the industry or giant dealers/ebay sellers who rip people off by lying, forging, counterfeiting, etc.
Or people like UD's Richard McWilliam who is/was so corrupt that most of an entire book (Card Sharks) is about him.
This thread was certainly not meant to turn FCB members against one another, and I apologize if it comes to that.

I also want to throw in the Home Shopping Network/QVC card guys. Nothing nauseates me more than watching them rip people off late at night. I was watching the other day when they were offering "(15) Gem Mint Rookie Cards" for $100 or somewhere in that neighborhood. The cards included "rookie cards" of guys like Jeter, Wright, Tiger Woods, Lebron, AJ Burnett (laughable), etc. and all of the baseball cards probably sell for a nickel ungraded, manufactured by some minor league company like Just, and they were graded 10's by some felonious grading company like MGS or HSN or something irrelevant. Even the cards they showed on the screen were CLEARLY OC, which made it even more of a farse, but listening to these idiots drone on about "investment potential" of these cards makes me do this ::facepalm:: ::facepalm:: ::facepalm:: ::facepalm:: ::facepalm:: ::facepalm:: ::facepalm:: ::facepalm:: ::facepalm:: ::facepalm:: ::facepalm:: ::facepalm::

Edit: Found a link to the lot, some of these aren't even CLOSE to rookie cards. Look at the Jerry Rice, what a joke...

LOL yeah i did used to enjoy getting home from work late at night and putting them on to watch them talk so much about things they knew nothing about...and what about that guy they would get on the phone who was the supposed "owner" of alot of those cards? LOL retards. my friends and i would actually turn them on when there was nothing else better on just to laugh, and damn was it funny!

i mainly watched these a-holes during the "craze" for griffey jr/sammy sosa graded rooks like around 98-99ish. i loved hearing them say how an off-brand (non psa or bgs) graded 10 sosa donruss rc would command thousands when he gets in the hof. ahhh fun memories!!

I always enjoyed Don West

Where do you start in this hobby? So many people have used and abused it.

1/ Beckett - They could have been a real leader in this hobby by steering it in the right direction when they had a chance. Instead they turned into this lovely hobby into a mockery.

2/ UD and Topps - What's going on with these two? Have they run out of ideas. Their output over the last several years has just been flat boring. I've been buying cards all my life, and I've never been so uninterested like I've been in the last few years.

3/ Auction houses and PSA. Some of these people need to start doing a better job policing what they sell and grade. There was a lot of ugly stories about Mastro and some of ther other auction houses in the book, "The Card." Made a lot of us collectors look too gullable to accept whatever they "claims" they're selling.

My top 3:

1 - Mr. Mint by far....
2 - Kenny Golden from Golden sports...Had a card infomercial on HBO or QVC or something...basically the same that you guys are talking about.
3 - not a crook or idiot...but there is just something about him that I don't like. with the deal about the autographics cards on ebay, the controversy about the authentication of cut signatures, causing a huge ruckus on here (FCB), and overall just acting kind of shady/unprofessional (whatever you want to call it)....Brian Gray or whatever the hell his name is....the Razor dude. Some of you may think he's a stand up guy, and more power to you and him for that....maybe it's just me and my views, but there's some things about him that I don't like.

TRCardCollector mentioned Razor in the post just before yours.
And technically, he's correct. Brian Gray did deny being in cahoots with Upper Deck.
But I blame UD president and puppet master Richard "Tricky Dick" McWilliam for most of that chicanery.

This hobby is filled with so many great people, many of whom are on this message board.
But there are also some people in this industry we wish we could rid from the hobby.

So who are your Tops 3 crooks, liars, scum, tools or just plain idiots in high positions that you wish could be banished from sportscards forever?

Mine are:

1. Kevin Burge - The infamous (alleged  ) card trimmer, patch faker and autograph forger who goes by ShoelessJoe and many other aliases on eBay.

2. Richard McWilliam - Upper Deck's CEO/President. Read the book, "Card Sharks" and you'll realize how horrible of a human he is.

3. Beckett's new management and internet designers. The magazines keep getting worse and the web designers are hacks who ruined a good thing. However, without those idiot web designers, there wouldn't be this board, which turned out to be much better than Beckett's site.

I agree! Beckett Mods were jerks! They would ban you for any reason. Mods are much more patient and understanding here! I like this site ALOT better than Beckett! And new Beckett does suck!

1.Riza of NY
This guy is a lying scumbag, use to be well known on ebay until he got booted off.A wannabee in the sportscard hobby. His feedback got so bad he started selling pictures of his cat to boost his feedback. He also changed his ebay name to "Stinkybutt" in a last ditch attempt to fool people. This low life went as far as buying some vintage cards from a lady and returned cards that were of a poorer grade. He didn't fool her. This was all documented in the feedback she left.I could go on and on but I am running out of space.Riza is no longer registered on ebay as "Stinkbutt" but could be back to his thievery under a different name.

2.Rawoysterman,vintage card counterfeiter

Flooding the vintage card market with counterfeit baseball and hockey cards. These are not reprints but counterfeit. There is a difference.Although this seller upfront about what they are, the problem arises when others buy them to re-sell.Usually a story that include the words Grandpa and Shoebox. The problem is so bad that if a card is not graded by a reputable company like SGC,it is not worth taking the chance. For those of us who like ungraded cards, buying on ebay has all but ended.I no longer view the vintage baseball section on ebay because up to 50% or sometimes more on one page are counterfeit.

3.Anyone else who prints fakes.

Good post. We all know the same thing happens at mall shows and mall shops when the dealer sells to people who don't know anything about the hobby.

On that note my top idiot is some dealer in a mall show who was trying to hard sell a NM- McGwire '85 rookie to a clueless soccer mom and others at full book after the HR race...I felt dirty just being there. I didn't feel bad at all when I told the soccer mom that a million McGwires were printed.

No input really but I would love to hear the dirt on Mr. Mint. Can someone shed some light please?

He is a long time dealer in baseball cards - he was kind of one of these high profile characters in the baseball card boom of 20 years ago who had his own book and every month you'd see his face in one of his ads [in baseball card magazines] where he'd tout 'finds' he made by probably traveling somewhere.

He has lots of money and probably has made a lot of money in sportscards - people assume in his 'finds,' he mostly gouges older folks out of their prized baseball cards.
