Ah.

So if a Yankee like me walks into a bar in Louisiana and calls someone a coonass then i'm losing teeth, but a more playful term amongst you fellow southerners?

HA! Maybe...depends on the bar I guess, and how liquored up they are as well. I don't think I would show up to a bar and yell, "Hey ****-asses!" Just wouldn't be cool....

They would kick your ass just from being from the North :D I live just outside New Orleans. Cajun Country is where Jake Delhomme is from. Towards the middle of the state. Not many cajuns in New Orleans.

I want to apologize to everyone. I never intended for what I said to be potentially taken as a racial slur. I have family from Louisiana and "****-ass" is a term I have heard all of my life. Like someone else had mentioned, the term applies to people from the bayou and Farmer Fran from The Waterboy is a good example. I only used the term as a joke and thought it was common knowledge what it meant. Had I known that people may think I was using it as some type of racial slur, I would have explained it better.

So to anyone I may have potentially offended, I sincerely apologize. There was absolutely no use, meaning, or implication of any type of racial slur.

gldneagles311- How are you liking Jersey? I'm originally from Cincinnati and have lived in Pace now for 6-7 years. In 2010, my wife and I are going to be moving to Indianapolis and I am very much looking forward to being back up north. It's pratically like going home for me. I have DirecTV and get the Sunday Ticket so that I don't have to suffer withdrawal from any Bengals games.

Jersey isn't badso far. It's freakin' cold! Being from the south, I don't own "winter" clothes, so that has been rough the past couple of days (its been the crazy, cold wind thats made it tough). Overall, I really like it, its been a nice change...havent found a card shop yet though....lol

I think that if anyone was offended then they need to get over themselves. Way too many other things in this world to bother with that getting hurt over a word or two. I had heard this said by a guy I used to work with from Louisiana and even the black guys that worked with us weren't offended. Everyone is too touchy and sensitive.

Not too create anything here, really, but racial sensitivity isn't something that people need too "get over"

Muskiesfan was not trying to offend, obviously; and didn't. But was also right to clarify his statements. Good for him, and he's been thanked. It's clear that this word "coonass" isn't offensive. I asked as I never heard it before.

IMO there is nothing more important than respecting others cultures, race, creed, ect.

....Most of the worlds ills are due to just a word or two. Words have meanings and intent and ideology behind them.

Agreed, and holy ****. When I read "**** asses," I nearly **** myself. At first, I thought it was possessive, and you were talking about the asses of *****; which is probably about as inappropriate as it gets. The Ebonics thing obviously didn't make it any better.

I'm still confused, because people say "cracker ass" quite a bit and I"m not sure if it's the same thing.

Either way, a good post went horribly wrong.
