Has there every been a bigger decline in sales for baseball cards? These SPx autographs were selling as high as $35 when Emilio started off the season with a bang.

Today they sell for under $2 dollars.

Does anyone have any other examples of such a quick decline in secondary market sales for a player in baseball?

Wow. That's crazy.

I couldn't give them away in 2008. Actually, I gave one away on YouTube. He's absolutely terrible.

You would think that someone with such great speed would be quite a decent player?

That was the theory with Michael Bourne.

This happens pretty much every year and its quite fun to capitalize. Last year was Mark Reynolds. While he has turned himself into a solid player he got really HOT at the beginning of last year. 5 HRs in the first 8 games and his stuff was on fire. I sold an 07 BC Xfractor with a couple chromes and base cards for $40.00. About a week later the same lot would have brought around $5, which is about the price now.

I always wonder what the people that buy this stuff are thinking.

I think a lot of the collectors here could see that Bonifacio would be a flash in the pan kinda guy.
I often wonder who the people are who buy into guys when they are way over hyped....

2 years ago, JJ Hardy got so hot, you'd have been an idiot not to sell. The same cards you can get for less than $5 today were going for $70+, I'm not kidding. I flipped a 2005 spx auto /10; bought it for like $20 and sold it for about $150.

Caveat: JJ could still be great, and he's pretty elite with the glove, but he's no where near as good as those prices were comanding.

Also, the first person I thought of was Shelton as well.

Most people think of players that were very hyped and then never kept up playing good, and are basically terrible now

How about these 2

Bryce Harper- His autos were selling for like $1,000 after his SI Cover debut. Now just 1 month 1/2 later they are at like $500

Evan Longoria- His 08 Bowman Chrome RC Logo's were going for $10-$20 in April, but when he hurt his hammy and started struggling they went back down to only $5 or less

As a Tigers fan, I immediately thought of Chris Shelton and his April home run binge from a few years ago.

that's why i buy guys who aren't hyped. by the time they're hyped + by the time the usually brief window to sell opens, it's just about going to shut. as snoop dogg says, drop it like it's hot, hypemachine/prospecting 101

Bonifacio is like a poor man's Juan Pierre - and some people absolutely believe Pierre is worthless.

At least Pierre has the ability to make consistent contact.

The man is absolutely despised among Marlins fans.

Hope to see him gone very soon.

Unreal...and to think that HOFautos started buying non=HOF auto RC's because of Benifackiupod.

I remember seeing in the completed auctions section a UD Premier auto Bonifacio #'d to 10 sell for $100 dollars.

Now THAT'S hype right there.
