That's awesome. I don't know if you are a big fan of Ackley or not, but once you finish the rainbow and he is called up in the bigs this year and is ROY contender, you could probably sell the rainbow set for nearly $1,000. Either way if you keep it or sell it, that is a nice set you completed.

Which ones did you pull and which ones did you have to trade or buy?

My 14 packs arrived today. Haven't opened any yet, still considering selling them...

Yeah even getting the Bryce Brentz auto, which is better than most will get, I will be lucky to get as much as I could have selling the packs.
I had 15 packs and I could of got about $8 for each pack, so that would have been $120 total.
If I can get $50 or $60 for the Brentz auto, that means I still need $60 or $70 from the complete set and 40 dups I got that include an extra Strasburg.
I can sell the set and extra cards I have for more at the card shows I do than on Ebay, but it will still be hard to get more than I could have selling the unopened packs.
I wanted to open them, but I would suggest that you sell them. Many people are opening as many as 24 packs and not even getting 1 auto! Even if you get an auto, it's most likely going to be one of the cheap USA auto's. Only about 20% of the auto's are any good.
If you did sell them, make sure you find out what they pulled!

Got my 18 packs on Friday and pulled one auto (Marcus Littlewood).

Be careful buying these packs (especially from eBay) as I tested this out to see if I could find which packs might have an auto. I weighed mine and all the non-auto packs were approx. the same (.74oz) while the one with the extra "hit"/auto was heavier (.82 oz). People can do this and easily keep their auto packs and sell off all the base packs keeping the heavier/auto ones to themselves.

Good call on that, I was thinking the samething. It's the same reason I don't usually buy individual boxes from Ebay because I am afraid that people will open the good boxes and sell the crap. Not always likely, but I would rather spend an extra $5 and have a chance at something good.

Yeah it's crap for the price they are selling for. It's a decent promotion, I just thought there would be at least 1 auto per 12 packs. If they wouldn't have given free packs to distributors and cardshops and would have mailed them out once the promotion was over so they knew how much to make, then we all would have got more auto hits.
If people were not weighing the packs to find the autos and they only were selling for $5, I would buy them. That way if you bought 11 or so, you could make 1 set and get about 1 auto. That would be worth $55.

I agree with you, I thought for sure you would get an auto or 2 per case redemption. I also thought it was shatty that the distributors go packs and LCS got packs. We went through the BS of saving and sending wrappers in, not to mention paying for the cases. Overall another ball dropped by Topps. If I would have received a Bryce Harper, I don't know if I would be complaining though, ha ha.

Finally got my 16 packs in today. For all the bitching and moaning I've done over the past few weeks I have to say I was happy. It doesn't excuse how Topps handled the whole thing but personally..I'm good. I got 1 complete set and all of the extras and 1 auto, a Ackley chrome auto /100. So, I can't complain about what I ended up with.

I also wanted to add, for anyone buying these packs, that not only do they weigh more(according to a few posts above) but I could see the pack with the auto WAS bigger. That was just by putting all 16 next to each other and looking. So, someone doesn't need a fancy scale. I would stay far far away from any packs you didn't receive from Topps or perhaps packs from blowout(I doubt they'd search them, but who knows).

I just got my 5 out of 7 packs today. Why they didn't send them all I have no idea. Out of curiosity, I weighed my packs even though I had every intention of opening them, 3 of the packs weighed .70 ounces while the other two weighed .65 and .75. Maybe it was just my scale that was off. Anyway, since I didn't have any heavier packs I obviously got nothing.

I was able to get $75 for Bryce Brentz. If you could complete a set of base black border, they were fetching in the $35 range. So you would have been close to what the wrappers alone were worth.

I realize so many people got shafted, but isn't that risk we all take when buying packs? We're all buying lottery cards hoping to get lucky.

I didn't get a Harper, but I did get fortunate and pulled 3 autos from 48 packs. I still would have been ahead if I sold the wrappers, but what's the fun in that?

Yeah, that sucks man. But one thing I've learned from the hobby this year, Topps doesn't care as long as they are still getting paid.

I got offered a pretty penny for my Harper Aflac jersey # card, but I can't let go of it. It's my prized possession...even if I do eventually lose out for not getting rid of it now. I'm sentimental.
