I can't stand it when people use "Hall of Very Good". It's so preposterous... especially when it's called the Hall of FAME to begin with and not the Hall of Amazing, which is what people who use that stupid "Hall of Very Good" nonsense seem to think it is called. It's a lame argument used by those who don't understand what the HOF is and those who don't have valid arguments over who is Hall-worthy or not.

Tim Salmon was a notoriously slow starter. Very rarely did he have the first half stats to justify an all star nod. I would have liked to see him get his 300th homer but he will still go down as one of the greatest angels of all time.

It has become a tired statement. Tired of reading it myself, and all the post about jeff kent. I love baseball, but I'm not wasting to many seconds, debating or fighting over some guys HOF credentials, we all have our own opinions of greatness and own bias. To get upset over this stuff and call people out, to argue over it, come one guys, it's a game, relax. People are losing sleep over these players, and they are at home, enjoying their lives.

Nothing in this is aimed at any one person or the OP. Not looking for a fight, just stating my opinion, which I hope is ok.

This is the list that pop in my head right away. Bernie Williams had unbelievable numbers in the post season and was very clutch but many would argue with that.

Don't know what all the complaining is about. This thread is about the Hall of Really Good...not the "Hall of Very Good" :geek: People need to get past the title that is so "preposterous" and either be part of the topic/conversation or not. This thread and others is not around the title but more so on peoples opinions about who they think are either good enough to be considered or bad enough not to even be on a voting ballot.

I would love to see Edgar Martinez in the Hall of Fame. I honestly think him being on the Mariners is what is keeping him from already being voted in, but hopefully it is only a matter of time.

I know what the thread is. I was merely commenting on the use of that phrase. This thread is about players who people think are really good, but not good enough for HOF induction. Right on the edge.

This will be my last add.

If you really follow baseball and are old enough to have watched the careers of the guys being mentioned for the HOF, you should just know in your head, if they are HOF worthy or not, without stats or debate.

There are just too many variables. You can't compare players from today or the 80's, to guys that played in 1940. It was a different game, ball, stadium and talent pool. In recent times we are watching the best baseball talent across the planet play in the mlb, not a talent pool made up of mostly/all white guys living in the US. With or without drugs, athletes are bigger, stronger, and faster today than they have ever been, yet we are still comparing stats from 1920 to now, as if they rep the same thing, they dont and never will. Judge a player by how he played, during his era and the position he played, compared to guys that played that position, in the same era. If you are against PED's, and have pretty good reason to suspect a guy of being a user, take that into consideration as well.

And finally, this is a game and the HOF is for fun. Enjoy it.
Some people let their bias and innner-homer take over and fight against a guy.

As a laker fan, growing up in the 80's. I hated the celts, bird, parish and all of them.
But I know who was great and who I feared seeing the lakers play and I don't
allow my feelings to get involved when judging the hated players.

Were they great, did they make a huge difference? Were they the best of their era at their position?
Did you stop what you were doing to watch them, when they were at bat or on the mound.

Then deal with your thoughts on ped's and you have a HOF player, in your opinion.

In recent years we have seen players like fergie and cepeda be added to the hall, if they are in, then I don't
see why many of the names being mentioned here, can't be.

Good post. When all is said and done, what does it matter who makes it or who doesn't. It doesn't affect us. I get so tired of seeing people get so bent out of shape in these HOF discussions. Who cares if a guy you don't think is deserving gets in or vice versa. What does it matter. The BBHOF sets the guidelines and we all have to live with and accept who their voters vote for. If the HOF no longer interests you because Jim Rice is in and Kenny Lofton didn't make it past one year of eligibility, then so be it. That's just how it is. Does it make sense? Maybe not. But it's nothing to lose sleep over or get upset about.

No one would sit and talk sports if we all agreed. These type of discussions are enjoyable to other 90% of us

I'm not saying everyone has to agree. Of course discussion will happen and that is great. I'm talking about people who take it so seriously that they say things like 'The BBHOF should just shut it's doors because it's so watered down!', or 'The BBHOF sucks because of who they are voting in!', or 'The BBHOF is a joke!'. Give me a break. Get over it.

While I think he should actually be in the HOF, football injuries derailed that. Bo Jackson should be in the HoRG, at a minimum. Playing baseball as a job and being the utter beast he was, in all aspects, merits it. Playing NFL football as a hobby, justifies his greatness.

I think Dale Murphy is the "poster child" for this Hall.

Trammel and Mattingly (both of whom I think deserve to get in), Keith Hernandez (personal fave), Dave Parker and Edgar Martinez (who'll probably get in too) would be there too.

And although I didn't see them pitch, Vida Blue and Jim Kaat might get eventually in with the lower standards for pitchers...
