I thought I had a pretty good beat on all of Baseball, but when I read an article that Scott Feldman was the opening day starter for the Rangers I was thrown back a bit. I saw this guy had 17 wins last year. Never heard of him until today.

He came from nowhere last year. Being from Montreal, it remind me another southpaw, Jeff Fassero. Both were destined for middle/long relief but strong outings when needed changed it all.
But... he's not a #1. And honestly i thought Rich Harden was their opening day starter so i am surprised.
however i have Feldman in my fantasy and cheering for a repeat !

How the heck did he get 17 wins with an ERA over 4??

Run support?
Yes, this is the obvious answer.

Not saying he didn't have a great season but put him on any other team and he is just a mediocre pitcher.

I am curious to see if he will have a better season this year..

Reminds me of the year Kevin Tapani won 19 for the Cubs even though his ERA was 4.85. It just is more evidence that shows that evaluating a pitcher based on wins is a poor way to evaluate.

Feldman actually has some really good pitches. His main pitch is a sinker and his second pitch is a cutter. He also has a curveball and slider.

I was really impressed last year when I saw him pitch against the Orioles. His sinker and cutter really move and when you have two really good pitches that move in opposite directions, you are going to be alright.
