I am!

IMO the announcer of the game should be someone who actually is an allstar, has passion and charisma. thats why I think Kenny should be the contaminator instead of the jabronis they currently use.

as for voting him in, it would be a nice gesture and a very unique situation, (not to mention cool) but Im trying to avoid being a biased (homer) individual and am voting for Vlad instead of my guy. Vlad has been through a lot and proves to be the best at the position.

I wouldn't vote for him but I think Selig should add him to the A.L. roster and let the manager decide whether or not to give him an atbat.

Yeah I like Vlad a lot and though it feels cheap to vote for him, Griffey is so awesome I would love to see him one more time!

The vote on the article resulted in 78% ppl saying they would vote for Griff to be an all star thats crazy!

Yeah, but Bud Selig isn't that cool.

If he does get voted onto the team as a starter, they should give him the same treatment that Mike Schmidt received when he called it a career in 1989...an invite to stand with the players on the field...and that's it.

That would be a classy send off in my opinion.

He should get to play like in Cal Ripken's last year in 2001...coincidentally it was at Safeco.

Heck no. He had a great career but his numbers were crap this year and he is no longer a player so hell no to the AS game. Now if the AL want to waste a roster spot on him and help the NL get home field in the WS then go for it :)

I, for one, would not like to see this happen. He was a great player but should've retired years ago. The last couple of years have been an embarrassment. Who really wants to see him flail away at a Lincecum or Jimenez pitch? Let him ride off into the sunset with some shred of dignity intact.

I was initially torn over the question but then remembered that this is the "All-Star" game & not the "All-Stat's" game... Honestly I don't know anyother player that defines the meaning of All-Star more than Griffey Jr. himself so I'd go with "yes" here (Vlad can play in it next season as DH, he'll still be the top DH come next season). ;) :D

All those that say yes are instantly removing themselves for the future debate over too many Red Sox or Yankees players making the team. Either you want the best players on the team or it's a fun game for the fans. You can't have it both ways.

IMO Vlad is the best DH right now and shouldnt have to wait his turn.

remember, Griffey is done to free up a Mariner spot for possibly just a long reliever.

so -
Mariners
random young long reliever > Griffey
ASG
Vlad MVP top 5 MVP ? Griffey.

again Im a huge fan so its hard to say this, but the guy belongs in the press box, not the field.

Yes Vlad is the best DH right now but the All-Star game has NEVER been about the best player getting voted in, has it? In all the previous year's it's been the most popular gets the call (an All-Star)... So while Vlad may put the better stat's up on the board I think he pales in comparison to Griffey Jr. when it comes to the determining factor...which is (like it or not) popularity!

I've always been about voting in the most deserving player but in this circumstance I say give back to a player who's given baseball so much (not to mention Griffey Jr's prescence at the AS-Game would be leap's & bound's better for baseball & the AS-Game itself than Vlad's prescence there). :D

very true. IMO unfortunate, but true. I mean I dont mind it one bit if there wasnt something on the line. it could be a hollywood convention of whos-whos, but there cant World Series (the ultimate prize) advantage on the line.

Do you guys think he will actually make it?

people are going to give him a push.. it will be close.

another question, does he want to?

right now hes driving across the whole country still, and I bet he is going to be resting for a while. not sure if he would want to stay in shape* long enough for one at-bat and get K'd.

I mean dont get me wrong I love the guy, but Ive seen every AB of his this year, and he has fanned against limp armed guys throwing 87 down the middle, I dont think he could hit Ubaldo or Lincy. (but I would love to be wrong)

Gibson anyone?
the difference being though that while he was hurt, he did actually have 25 bombs that year. Griffey has 0 so far.

and btw, I said the Ms were making room for a no-name long man, turns out I was wrong..

its Chad Cordero!!! :) would be awesome to see him get back on track.
