no idea i havn't talked to him or seen him around in a while.

I was wrong, guess he moved back right before Christmas.

Yep he moved back on Christmas eve as a matter of fact.
and he is on here every once and a while.

Hey guys, I really want to go to nationals this year and the only thing holding me back is the room, sence I can't find anyone to go with me I'll be the only one going. If anyone is interested in doing this lmk and hopfully we can work something out! I'll be flying out of Wichita ks or Kc just a fyi if anyone was wondering.

i do shows all the time. and i have done the nationals many times. i never break even. never lose money, and usually leave the room with about 50k although this year there is no point in going in my eyes. the economy is horrible. people arent going to want to spend like they use to, i noticed it at the last white plains show. but for example. i remember i had a problem with 2 buyers in 2004 . or wait. was it 2005.. doesnt matter.. it was 2005. anyways.. in clevland. i had 9 larry fitzgerald contenders there. and there are only 50. so alot of people in the room thought i was getting them back doored or they were fakes. so donruss had to come over and verify that they were real, and they assured all the buyers that they were not back doored

anyways. they were only doing about 650-700 on ebay at the time and i got 800-1000 for them there and left the show with only 1 left.

i also had i believe 33 julius jones. and they all had the 21 inscription, at the time, they were bringing 250-300 each at the show, and only 225 max on ebay. i sold out!
they then jumped to 275 on ebay.

if a card is hot. there is a demand. and at show's, people will buy them.. but, i just dont really see a demand for anything right now, unless its a dead guy or a 1/1

i mean.. look at what contenders mcfaddens are down to already.. the market is pathetic.

I have never been to a card show, anywhere, any time, in my entire life.

I can only suspect that the dealers have a bunch of table fees to cover just to break even, which to me defies the thought of getting great deals on anything

The National's table have to be quite costly, and unless it's viewed as a sunk advertising cost, a dealer would be less reluctant to bargain with anything in demand, knowing that his breakeven is high.

Have any of you attended a National before? Did you find you got good deals?

I'm curious, because I can't understand why a dealer would pay all those fees to sell something for less than it could get on the Internet, with little effort and minimal costs.

Several reasons-

Inventory that won’t sell on ebay/naxcom/sportlots/etc. (think cheap gu/autos, obscure oddballs, junk wax packs, base cards of random players, etc.) WILL sell @ nats + for pretty decent $

You CAN get more for cards @ shows than on ebay. not always, but there’s def. a good sized chunk of buyers who do NOT buy online

Advertising/customer acquisition- I’ve met MANY people @ shows who used to buy from ‘the other guys’- they met me, realized I sold on ebay, + are now MY customers + buy from me OFFLINE or buy MORE b/c they’ve seen the ‘face behind the random ebay id’

Good deals- not everyone knows that prospect X just got hyped everywhere on the internets/BA/etc. some dealers have huge boxes of ‘stuff’- sift through them + you CAN find deals

Chances to buy collections @ low cost- a lot of people (who don’t pay for tables)

Btw, table costs aren’t that expensive- split it w/a few people + you can end up paying 200 or less for the wk. Compared to what you sell @ nationals, it’s well worth it + WAY less than ebay/pp fees on the same amount. find a cheap flight (think my last flight to nats was $150ish) + split a hotel (or get a deal on priceline etc.) + it's not as expensive as you'd think

A David Price 07 Xfractor BGS 10 sold for $500 at the Queens College show in NY a few months ago. :lol:

Haha! Damn Hype! My six year old cousin can spell and type better than that. You need to go back to school my friend and forget card shows! Studying is way more important than cards!
