I don't know how I forgot about him, but I also like Sergei Federov as a kid. Whenever I'd pay my hockey video games, I'd always trade to get him on the Lightning  .

I used to have a small collection of him back when I was younger. Wish I still did.

A lot of Islander love in this thread, and I guess I have to add to it. I became a hockey fan in the late 70s when the Islanders were heading into the "dynasty" years. My favorite player was Bossy. Gretzky might not have reached his all time goal scoring total if he didn't have to retire in his prime. He scored more than 50 goals in 10 straight seasons and could potentially have hit 900-1000 at the rate he was scoring if he could have stayed healthy.

Still he was a joy to watch. He had a great core of support during those years, Trottier, Potvin, Billy Smith in goal, Ken Morrow who won the gold medal in the Miracle on Ice then went on to win 4 straight Stanley cups. That's a pretty good 5 years, eh? Bob Nystrom, John Tonelli, Bob Bourne, they weren't just a one man show. But Bossy on many nights was just that.

Kamensky

Funny you mentioned Kamensky because as i became a teenager i became a big fan of the Quebec Nordiques and Valeri was one of my favs.

I used to love those late 80s, early 90s Quebec Nordiques teams. Sakic, Sundin, Nolan, Kamensky, Ricci, Ron Tugnutt, Ron Hextall, Steve Duchesne, Mike Huff, Curtis Leschyshyn, Bryan Fogarty (RIP  ).

Who else am i missing that was good from those Nordiques teams?

when i stopped rooting for the Islanders (issues with my father, lets leave it at that) it was 1987.
Read about Joe Sakic and the accident, became a fan of his immediately. When he was drafted
by Quebec, i had my new team to root for. Man i really loved the Nords. i would see them every
time they'd play at MSG and Nassau Collaseum

when they moved to Colorado, i stuck with the team.

other Notable Nords that you didnt list that come to mind. Forsberg ;)
Clark (bad trade!), Foote, Fiset, Thibault (GOOD trade :)
Deadmarsh

I did forget about a bunch of great Nords, especially Fiset, he was a favorite of mine. The Wendel Clark trade was just awful. I didn't understand it then and i still can't explain it now. Trade a young #1 overall draft pick, superstar in the making for an often injured, aging player, i just dont get it ::facepalm::

For me, when they moved to Colorado is when i started losing interest in the team. Their first year in Denver i was still following them and was very happy that Sakic got a Cup but i felt so bad for Quebec City. They had all those awful losing seasons, just to see their team start to turn it around and then move away and win the Cup their first year after leaving Quebec City. That was just awful for that city.

In the very early 90s, when I got into hockey I was a Blues fan, Curtis Joseph and Brett Hull were my favorites. Moved to the east coast in '98 and kinda lost track of the Blues, became a Caps fan. Kolzig was my favorite for a long time, now Nicklas Backstrom and Brooks Laich are my favorite Caps.

i lost interest in Sundin after the trade. he always came off as a "me me" imo, and i think he knew he'd NEVER be "#1" in Quebec while Joe was there, and Joe wasnt going ANYWHERE! lol

I'm a Sharks fan, so I was a sucker for all the fan favorites in San Jose:

Jeff Friesen
Mike Ricci
Arturs Irbe
Al Iafrate

Didn't really pay attention to players not on the Sharks BUT had a few I liked:

Pavel Bure
Cam Neely
Jaromir Jagr

Well I can name off a list of guys I liked, but weren't favorites, and that's where Pat Falloon would fall under.

Because my dad was a Habs fan (born there) I watched Jean Beliveau and Bernie "Boom-Boom" Geoffrion growing up. When I really became a fan it was Rod Gilbert and Jean Ratelle. Later Phil Esposito when he came to NY from Boston.

Oh Canada......
Doug Gilmour & Stevie Yzerman ofcourse... but had a liking for Alexander Moginly too :D I remember really liking him and always choosing his jersey number as mine when I played minor hockey #89.

Now I am really starting to like the play of Luke Schenn & Nik Kulemin, they are turning into my favorite players but I will always be fond of Steven Stamkos watching him grow up in junior (Sarnia Sting).

Shep :ugeek:
