Is Willie Mays 3 times the player Musial was? Their PSA graded rookies would seem to suggest so. Race may be AN issue, but it is not THE issue. There are MANY factors that determine collectibility.

PSA 5 Mantle RC ~$3500
PSA 5 Mays RC ~$700

Someone please convince me that Mantle was FIVE times better then Willie Mays.

Race most certainly IS a factor in the hobby

It most certainly is a factor. Just look at all of the money poured into African American prospects purely based on potential when they struggle to hit .200 in low A, and then compare it to the cash people spend on white players that put up similar statistics.

Cabrera will never pt up gaudy home run numbers in that ballpark.

Geeze, people are so spoiled by the cartoonish numbers of the steroid era.
