I will settle this fairly...whoever is the winner of the 2009 WS, is the team of the decade!
Fair enough.

Imagine: "Nationals win rest of their games to make playoffs then win World Series."

Honestly how can anybody not think 2000 was part of this decade?

Was 1990 part of the 90s?
Was 1950 part of the 50s?

How could anyone not think 2000 is part of this decade?

If the Yankees win this year they are clearly the team of the decade. They won the division all but one year. If they win the WS they have 2 world series and 4 appearences.
The Red Sox made it to the world series in 2004 because of the wild card.

Well, if you want to go decade by decade starting with the year 1, then no, 2000 is most definitely not part of this decade. '1-'10 '11-'20, etc.

So 1990 is part of the 1980s?

So it goes, '71-'80, '81-'90?
If you are talking about the best hits of the 90's do you not include 1990 and include 2000?
If you are talking about the best hits of the 00's do you not include 2000 and include 2010?

Let me say, I'll give you the Yankees for this decade, since I don't give a crap about arguing it.
But, using your logic, wouldn't the Braves be the team of the 90s? They won more divisions.
Answer - of course not.

I say unless Boston wins the WS, Yanks got the decade, based on division championships, W/L%, and making it to the WS..
They are the Winningest team of the decasde.

The Braves were the team of the 90's. Also why they were called America's team. To me there is not one team that stands out this decade like the Braves did in the 90's.

Boston.

And if the Angels or Yankees win the World Series this season then they should be in the discussion.

To me it takes two World Series wins and a half a decade of playoff runs.

They are the Winningest team of the decasde.

Using those standards, the Braves would be the team of the 90s over the Yankees:
- More World Series appearances
- More Division Championships
- Best W/L record

But I don't think anyone thinks the Braves are the team of the 90s over the Yankees.

You could say it comes down to World Series Championships, but that would make the Dodgers the team of the 80s, but they had losing seasons in 4 of the 10 years.

Since there is no standard, it is just something to be argued about, mostly because Red Sox and Yankees fans don't have enough to argue about.

What team wouldn't be disqualified by that logic?

2000 is the start of the decade. And 2009 will be the last year of this decade. If the Cardinals win the World Series this season they are the team of the decade. If they don`t it`s the Red Sox UNLESS the Yankees either make or win the World Series. I would say right now it is Red Sox, Cardinals then Yankees, but that could be totally changed by the end of October depending on what happens. That`s the way I see it anyway. And St. Louis has done everything with little to no steroid controversy hanging over their heads. Vina, Glaus and Ankiel are the only three I can think of who have been named since 00. Nearly every big name on NY and Boston have been implicated since 00. I think that should be taken into consideration.

Actually, after giving it more thought, I think the team that makes the biggest news is the team of the decade. About the only really BIG news of the decade is RED SOX beating the Babes curse...

RED SOX are team of decade but would stand contention if Cubs finally win, but that ain't happenin'
