Leaving aside star players, I'll go with Kevin Tapani. Guy was as solid as they come for the Cubs.

I was one of the clubhouse managers for the Tidewater Tides back in 1989. Tapani was a great guy in the clubhouse, very down to earth, and one of the few players that would talk to me as if I was a real person. He got called up to the Mets and eventually got traded to the Twins in the Frank Viola deal.

In 1998, my boss had season tickets to the Braves, on the first row behind the Braves' dugout, right at first base and between the 'F' and 'T' in the "Home oF The Braves" written on the top of the dugout. I found out Tapani was pitching that night, so I wanted to go see him. In the third inning, he comes up with the bases loaded and jacks one out of the park for a grand slam. I jumped out of my seat to cheer him, which was the wrong thing to do when the opposing team's pitcher hits a grand slam and you are sitting above the Braves dugout. Andres Galarraga threw me a look as Tapani was rounding first base that scared the hell out of me. The next batter grounded out to the pitcher, and Galarraga came to the dugout with the ball in his glove and he was still pissed. I thought he was going to drill me with the ball, but he tossed it to the kid in the aisle next to me. I didn't get out of my seat for the rest of the game.

Yeah, I'm not sure what the OP is about now. If it's just guys who don't currently play for your team, I guess just look at my sig sans King Felix.

I was going for the guys that got traded or released before their careers were in the MLB were thru. Someone retiring isn't what I was going for I guess. I guess a criteria would be "went to a different team afterwards"
