I'm not trying to say the Gold Labels are better. I was showing that as a price comparison. Both are attractive inserts that are numbered to 100.

While your opinions are valid. They are coming from a user named crusade man and 2 guys with Crusade inserts in their sig. It is pretty clear that you guys LOVE these inserts.

My point is, while they are pretty, the prices are based on hype and the factors discussed.

You can bet your ass that when the red Crusade arrives, it will be in my sig as well. I spent forever searching for it, and I will showcase it like the purple. It might be #/25, but it feels like a 1/1 because of how rare they show up, if ever.

How many of us will be sporting our crusade rainbows? After years of tracking them down, I feel like christmas is coming early!!

I think I'm the only collector that walked away with a sour taste in my mouth after this whole thing. Bleh.

I do think the crusade prices are a bit inflated- but it's always supply and demand. The pricing for the 98 donruss crusade reds are not out of line with the prices with 96 select certified mirror golds, for example (commons 119 vs. 109 from Burbank Sportscards). Looking at a third set in between that is pretty similar in print run and has a very attractive production- the 97 Pinnacle Totally Certified Platinum gold #/30, shows that the 96 select mirror golds and crusade prices are probably a bit inflated. 97 totally certified gold commons are listed at Burbank for $41... So since the print runs are similar you've got to chock it up to a higher demand on the crusades. It does seem to get magnified on the purples and reds with comparatively higher print runs. All in all though 100 cards is not a lot to go around.

For Manny Ramirez at least, I would say that crusade (red-purple-green) prices are pretty steady over the period 2006-2009.

One other thing: with rare collectibles once a price point is established they typically don't regress too much (for established products- not so much for new ones). Especially nowadays most of us have access to the same information and that informs both the buyer and seller. Of course conditions can change but when someone sees a card sell for full book at on ebay or somewhere else they are prepared to bid in that range the next time if they really want to add that card to their collection.

I found a Jeter Purple #/100 at a show, but the print run numbers come through to the front a bit and I passed on it. I didn't think I would be able to move it with that defect.

Is that something that is common or is that card ruined. I don't know that much about them either

~AJ

How much was he asking?

If I remember right, I could've gotten it for around $50-60.

Hoping to have in hand Monday or Tuesday and will post scans with a quickness. ;)

Ages ago. Maybe '02 on the Buy / Sell / Trade part of Beckett. Think I got $70 for it then. Should've held on to it though .... ::facepalm::

I'm glad GraceCollector explained it so well. I have never had one in hand, so I guess I have to chalk it up to that! Rickey wasn't in the set, so I'll never have that feeling that I need to get the purple and the red once I get the green. I have always thought that the Crusade thing is a lot like that Gold Refractor phase from a few years ago. It suddenly became fashionable to own as many of the 50 Gold Refs as possible (props to the guy who bought up all the Delmon Youngs and started the trend), and everybody was competing to see who had the biggest, um, sig pic. ;) It's like some guys and their cars, always trying to one up each other. I've just always been a guy who is content to drive an Accord, and if I can buy one 90's insert #/25 for $10, I won't pay $100 for a similar card. No matter how cool the guys on the board would think I am if I only had the $100 card.

You see, I think you should buy what you like, and not what the guys on the board think is cool. I always thought the Crusaders were doing the latter, but I now realize maybe they really are buying what they like...

Is it possible that 90s inserts have been doing so well lately because everything released has been crap? Let's be honest, if you're not a prospector or have a fat wallet to spend on high end products, there's not much value out there.

I'm a 90's guy. Grew up in the decade, still listen to 90's grunge (Alice In Chains FTW) and collected in the 90's. I personally feel that the 90's inserts are above and beyond today's stuff.

I never knew you liked that. They are hands down my favorite band. I checked my Ipod top 25-played list and they have 21 of the spots :)

My quote that I had on Facebook for the longest time still stands (keep in mind this was when Fox was considering new voice actors for Futurama) read:

"Futurama without Billy West is like Alice In Chains without Layne Staley."

Nothing against William Duvall and the new album, but Layne's voice was, is, and always will be, the sound of AIC. Well, his voice and Jerry Cantrell on his mad guitar riffs.

I would so love to punch Duvalls head right off his shoulders. Talk about completely killing a legacy. So Im with you on that for sure.

No...trust me..this board generates quite a bit of hype.
