Why are Matt Wieters Elite Autos so cheap?

They were $250+ and now $35? Wasnt he projected to be a perennial All-Star catcher with power? So far thats exactly what he has been. 22 Home Runs last year and on pace for 25-30 this year. He is a 2 time All-Star..... so he lived up to the hype.... but his card values suck. What am I missing?

Lower batting average doesn't help. His career started slow and it's harder to regain prices after a slow a start. Plus, he was ridiculously overhyped by card collectors.

Wieters is 26 years old now and has one decent season under his belt (Last year, 139 games, .262 AVG, 22 HR, Gold Glove)

Currently, he is on pace to do about the same as last year...His stats are decent for a catcher, but I think he has to make a Matt Kemp type run to ever hit 3 figures again and I doubt it will occur

Nobody thinks he'll be HOF. As a prospect it always seemed he was being hyped simply because there weren't enough other exciting prospects.

He's not exactly putting up Pizza, I-Rod or Victor Martinez numbers. He's basically putting up Mickey Tettleton numbers. Look at Carlton Fisk. He made a whole career with those kinds of numbers, ended up in the Hall of Fame and look where it got his card values. I think people expect a lot more these days.

Tettleton is a fair comparison...offensively. But it pretty much comes down to the fact that he hasn't put up "Piazza" numbers as a catcher. What has made him a two-time All-Star is his great defensive prowess while jacking the occasional bomb. While his error total is up this year, he has easily controlled the opponents running game so far this year.

People were expecting Bench-type player and they got a Fisk-type player. $35 for his elite auto is a great deal. Better yet, find out what is 09 Upper Deck autos go for in an O's uni, considering he has not had ANY cards produced since then. Why aren't YOU stocking up?

Eric knows a lot, and I agree with him on this one.....they are not Topps cards and some collectors prefer them over Elite.

No interest in moving it for peanuts. Most people on here offer around $15 - $20 for it.
