I agree with the OP's Bonds assessment! :) I started collecting almost exclusively Bonds back in '98 and haven't looked back. He had all the tools and was a pleasure to watch. Certainly there's been a lot of turmoil along the way but I enjoy the hobby nonetheless.

Frank Thomas because he was awesome. Grady Sizemore because he was going to be awesome, then was (sort of) awesome, and will be awesome again (on a game-by-game basis). 2011 Marquee Museum collection autos because they are awesome. Certain vintage sets because they are awesome. Basically, I only collect awesome things. And a bunch of other junk.

I also have a small but awesome Butler collection (a couple 1/1s, autos, some of the better RCs, some rare inserts through the years). I think it would've been awesome if he'd Bretted his career, but I'm not too sad. Now that he's left KC, he might eventually end up a Yankee. Give him about 4 more years.

I get what you're saying, now will u continue to collect Rollins since he's departed from the Phils? I started collecting Pablo Sandoval and would probably still pick up his stuff in a giants uni but not red Sox

Yeah I'm like you. If a sweet card of him as a phillie comes up, sure! Even going forward after retirement if the cards issued if him are as a phillie I'll continue as well

This is the kind of stuff that's kinda ruined modern card collecting. You are "stuck" with cards you collected, a player that played for your team at the time??? Being "stuck" means that you only collected cards for their value or perceived value not for the pure enjoyment of the game and/or collecting. Butler was an important member of your self professed favorite team for many years. It's a shame you consider the cards of his that you have with being "stuck" with them.

I have many Jimmy Rollins cards and I'm not "stuck" with any of them. I enjoyed them when I got them and will always remember him when he was a phillie.

This is why my player collection and team collection do not overlap. I am free to pick up Red Sox cards all the time without having to worry about whether or not to continue collecting players who are no longer members of the team. Then I can get cards of Sandy Alomar Jr. with any of his teams, including minor league teams.

My player collection is a little different than most people. I collect players (vintage or modern cards) with the same name as me. The first name or last name. It doesn't matter. Like the high school perfect game pitcher Hogan Harris. Or Hogan Bassey the boxer. No Hulk Hogan. He's an idiot. I only have one golf card of Ben Hogan.

As a kid I collected Rickey Henderson because he was in the best player in the first pack of cards I bought in 1983. My collection grew to about 650 cards by 1994, then I bailed on the hobby.

After his retirement, I started collecting Kerry Wood. My favorite Cub of the era.

I now collect Daniel Winkler. He is a friend of the family. I have enjoyed showing his parents and grandparents his cards, and it is always fun to talk baseball.

I edited your post to show that this can apply to anyone. I find that prospect interesting because it happened to me. Garvey left the Dodgers after the 82 season, 1 year after their first World Championship since 1965. I actually changed allegiance and started following the Padres shortly thereafter. I eventually found my way back to being a Dodger fan after Garvey retired, so I suppose you could say I was a Garvey fan above any teams he played for. I can't imagine dropping a player because he changes team, but I suppose the hard core team collectors may see it differently.

now will u continue to collect _______ since he's departed from the ______?
