Does anyone really believe that guy's story that he was dealing with a card shop owner? Guy changed his story pretty quickly once he realized how much he was going to get massacred. He knew exactly what that card was worth, and deliberately lied to a flea market seller to get a steal. It would be same problem if the roles were reversed, and it was a seller who was trying to sell junk cards at inflated prices to a buyer that didn't necessarily know what they were looking at. Yes, you should know what it is that you're looking at, but a lack of knowledge doesn't excuse flat-out lying.

Is refusing to offer info flat out lying? Lying by omission I suppose. My thing is, you ask what people want for an item. It's part of the game. It's a little different than telling them it's only worth $***.

This hobby is about money and only money. Card companies put out release after release to do one thing, make money. Collecting, trading, and flipping all revolve around a price guide or recent sales that put values every card, and like the stock market, shifts prices up and down regularly. If the hobby isn't about money why do we care what a card is worth?

I flip to reinvest into my PC. It is too easy to make money prospecting to not take advantage of it.

Wrong for me. The only, and I mean only, reason I care what my stuff is worth is I don't want to go buy a card for a zillion dollars when I can easily get it for $5. You know how many Bagwell cards I know the actual value of? Very few. I'm not moving them so why should I care?

I can Honestly say I enjoy and Love My Collection, and Could Care less about its Value, I look at it as entertainment. and with any kind of entertainment you need to spend some money

The guy you collect necessitates the last part of your sentence...

What's wrong with people selling cards on here? You know that's a big part of sports card forums right? I'm starting to think your I.Q. level is very low or you're just a nerdy kid that doesn't get much sun light.

You have to be one of the biggest jackasses to have joined this forum in quite some time. I didn't reply to you here or even mention you in the least and you feel the need to take a jab at my intelligence? Like magicpapa has already mentioned, that is why there is a transaction board, apparently your IQ isn't up to par as it has been brought to your attention numerous times but you can't seem to get it.

Why do people get upset when others post steals?
1. Some folks are not fond of flaunting.
2. Some folks are envious of others' success.
3. Some folks despise profit motivation.

I can see someone getting excited and wanting to tell others about a big steal. I often check those threads to see what the steal was out of curiosity. Doesn't bother me any but I do laugh when it turns out there was no real steal unless you consider making a couple dollars profit a big deal. I personally don't post my big steals. I don't see the point as for me it is a common buying occurrence. I buy a few cards for my collection and piles for profit, so-called steals being common among them. I don't understand the folks blind with envy or those despising the profit minded collectors/investors. Everyone has to do what they have to do to survive and/or service hobby wants. I am a salaried professional but need to use eBay for to supplement my income to make ends meet. I look for flipping material on eBay frequently. I prospect football cards. I grade and flip. Whatever it takes. The haters can hate but they would be best served utilizing the time spending hating by joining the fun. I won't hold your 90's insert hostage and it stinks someone else will but no use poo-pooing over it as you have no control over the situation. Another copy will come along, the seller will back down, or you'll find something else to spend the money on.

Come on guys. This thread meant nothing about either of you. I'm aware of your problems, but you both, as well as the whole board, already know about them. There's not much else to say. You guys obviously hate each other...just part ways.

You win some and you lose some. Honestly, sometimes I like hanging out at the LCS and watching people break Bowman that have no idea what they are pulling out of the product. Amazing the steals you can get there since they have no idea who these guys are save the Strasbugs, Harpers and Darvish's of the world. They don't want to list the on eBay and are willing to give you just about anything you offer to get some of their money back.

As far as PC steals are concerned, I'm happy for anyone that gets them, it's pretty thrilling to get them myself. Being mad about anything when it comes to a hobby is pretty dumb. Not a worthy hobby if you get bent about it even on an occasional basis.

I didn't know people actually put people on ignore lists. But I'll be completely honest, I'm probably one of the biggest trolls on the internet. I actually look at this place as a break from it.

Because a majority of this site is fueled by greed and cynicism.

I don't believe that at all. Don't let a few bad apples spoil the bunch. Rather, it just seems weird how certain things are cool and others are not with such a random way of choosing between the two.

In the last year and a half I have only had one person sell me a card cheaper because I collect a player. It was a 2011 Bowman Chrome Canary Descalso 1/1. He had it listed for 65 on blowout and when I messeged him he was going to take my 65 but it was around christmas time and he said since it was going to go to a true collector and not someone trying to flip he would give it to me for 35! People like that are why I love the hobby. My friends/family are always like why do you collect Descalso it is going to be worthless, is card collecting about making money? I am collecting because it is fun and descalso is my favorite player why not collect him obsessivly

I think part of the issue is the difference between people who see this as a hobby, and people who see this as a business. The hobbyists have fun doing what they do, and hate being screwed by people looking to make a buck at their expense. The business people make money, and that's all they care about, and aren't concerned with squeezing as much profit from a card as they can, often at the expense of the hobbyist. When a collector gets a steal, it's great, since they either got a cool PC piece, or have the chance to use their steal to add to their collection. When someone who is in this for the money gets a steal, it's a case of the rich getting richer; all they're interested in is maximing their profit, and if it's at the expense of the collectors than so be it.

Great thread which touches on A LOT of topics (good and just stupid) but my take is I don't see anything wrong with getting a steal.

I'll have to read this entire thread when I have a TON of time but for now I'll drop a simple take on player collectors, etc. my feelings are to always help out player collectors.... I feel privileged to be on this site and meet and deal with guys who have the same passion eeerrrrrrrrrrrr addiction that I do lol... I feel like you should help them out if you can. His is just IMO but either way I respect the hobby and if someone wants to hijack a card or cards someone would want, such is life. As someone said earlier, what goes around comes around and if you play the game, pick a prize...

If you are going to sell something, why would you not know what you want for it? And knowing what you want for it should in some way be predicated on what it's worth.
