Why do prospectors cause so much trouble for eBay sellers?

eBay is filled with crappy buyers who lie or flake out after buying a card.
After reading Jim's post about being screwed over, I realized it seems I read the most complaints about buyers of prospects, as opposed to other kinds of card buyers.
Is there a reason so many problems for sellers are caused by buyers of prospects?
Or is it just my perception because this board is so prospect heavy?
By the way, I like to buy and sell prospects too, so this is definitely not a criticism of any members of this board.
It just seems that prospectors (or prospector-wannabes) seem to screw over eBay sellers more than any other type of buyer.

I don't think it's necessarily the prospectors, but sometimes the people buying players when they are hot. I've seen a lot of sellers get screwed by non-paying bidders when some player's cards are red hot. Then the buyer will see that card for say 50-75% of the price like a week later and decide that they don't want to pay... it's tough, but it's one of the risks that comes with prospecting.

Good point.
I didn't mean to stereotype prospectors (of which I'm one), when it's just a tiny majority who are causing problems.

because they doubt their bidding price once reading boards like this leading to buyers remorse.... If people wouldn't post that a person overpaid for a card, then the seller would get his money. Chances are a lot fo you have screwed yourself by posting in posts like this

I think it's because prospecting is such a fickle. As soon as a prospect struggles in the least bit or has a sore arm their stock drops and the value of the card drops. If you have a 7 day auction someone will bid on a hot prospect then a week later the prospects value drops. The buyer will then just screw the seller and not pay and apparently eBay is just fine with that.

Well they shouldn't be bidding if they don't have the money...

If you're prospecting you're primarily looking to try to make some cash, ala your own business. Would you go into business ahead of time if you thought you were going to loose money?

Most people wouldn't, so they back out when they think they'll loose out on a pay day.

If you're collecting you don't mind getting 'stuck' with a card that will loose you some money so much because the motivation for the purchase is not to make money off of it.

People buy a DVD set from Wal-Mart on Friday, get trashed on Saturday, sleep all day Sunday, and then return it on Monday for a refund.

Apply this to Ebay, win card on Friday, go to Outback on Saturday on a date, realize how much money they spent on Saturday Sunday night, decide that card is no longer in the budget on Monday while at work.....

I have to agree with this. I sold a lot of 6 Hanson chrome's during his first start, and at the end of the 3rd inning when he was mowing hitters down, the BIN got hit at $45. I contacted the buyer a few days ago and they said they were waiting for payments to clear, but they have bought tuff and received feedback since then... ::facepalm::

As a prospector, I sometimes do regret some purchases (especially ones on a whim) but each time I think about backing out, I always think of it from a sellers perspective which completely convinces me to pay up.

I'm a seller too so I don't like hearing those sorry excuses over and over, so I always pay.

Buyers remorse. That and for some it is "all about the money".

I think the people causing these problems are the ones who have no clue about buying. Most cases they buy high and see the card has soften over a few days and use ebays flawed system as a crutch.

I listed my LaPorta's the week he was called up. One winner won my Blue Auto $139, Xfractor Auto $69, and a base Auto BGS 9.5 for $68. $276 worth of LaPorta!!! Buyer never responded to emails, ebay messages, and a phone message. The winner had over 1000 buyer feedback with about a 97% rating because of neg sales. I was mad to say the least. I got a refund from ebay but I can not leave neg feedback to warn other sellers. That is such an unfair ebay policy that should be addressed. I sold the Xfractor last week for $43 and the base 9.5 for 38. That's a difference of $56 for the two. I am going to hang on to the blue now. Oh the sellers name is rarequestexchange I would block his bids. Especially on hot prospects.
