Why do teams send down players NOW?

Been noticing on MLB network teams have been demoting players to triple A teams NOW?

Its probably a pretty obvious answer but why do it now?

Its probably a pretty obvious answer but why do it now?

Two reasons I can think of:

1. Teams need to get back to a 25-man MLB roster (instead of 40) or open up spots on the 25- and 40-man rosters for Free Agents

and..

2. Sending a player down now wouldn't use an option, while it would if they waited til Spring Training.

Maybe they have to do it for the winter meetings. They might need to have everything organized for when the winter "bartering" starts.
