Perhaps this situation only highlighted an exiting problem that started years ago.

Bonuses paid to free agent prospects has long been skewed higher than with similarly talented drafted players.

MLB has set guidelines for draft bonuses, yet free agents can float whatever number is in their head.

Of course, we can't overlook the most simple of notions (yet was overlooked in the article) - free agents generate a bidding war, draftees cannot. If Strasburg was on the open market clearly that number would have been much higher. One single team was "bidding" for Strasburg, while 10+ were bidding against each other for Chapman.

There most certainly should be a worldwide MLB draft. And, I believe that teams should be able to trade their draft slots...but not sell them outright. I also believe that the worst 5 teams should enter a lottery structure for the top five picks with no placement guarantee for the worst record.

Why would teams build complexes?
Who would pay the insane fees associated with taking someone away from various leagues?
Why would you spend any money scouting and developing players as 15 and 16 year olds if they can become property of the Pittsburgh Pirates on draft day?
Half these men aren't even amateur athletes..

I don't understand a cent of the logic you're trying to drop.
