Why does Hanley Ramirez stuff seem to sell so cheap?

Besides his rookies, most of his stuff seems to sell much cheaper than others in his class?

I know he puts up numbers, but is he a dweeb off the field?

Florida Marlins is all you need to know...It's not fair because the guy is a great ballplayer, but he plays for a team that nobody pays attention to

he also has a ton of autos

So do Jeter, and Griffey, main reason is he plays in a small market that no one really cares about.

It has nothing to do with small market and everything to do with that market simply not going out of its way for specific players when the team ideology is built around shipping out expensive players for young ones once they earn their money. If Hanley went to another "small market", like the Padres of Pirates, his cards would explode because of the chances being good that they would retain him as they have a better track record with trying to compete with clubs for their star talent as opposed to being the MLB farm team.

I would NEVER be a fan of a specific player if I were a Marlins fan by some unfortunate twist of fate.

The Rays are "small market" by definition too but that doesn't stop Longoria stuff from being the hottest out there. Strasburg for the Nationals is another example that will defy that logic.

It's about going rate. Off the top of my head it might be a little higher than going rate, but I could be off a little.

Anyway, to answer the question: too much stuff out there. He has 2-3 autos in pretty much every release.

Wait, those teams retain thier players? Someone tell Jake Peavy and anyone who was making over $5 million in Pittsburg to go back where they were... ;)

Once a price point has been set, it takes something close to a miracle for it to change dramatically.

Basically, once Hanley's autographed cards were going for $15, his continued success has never been able to create a level of demand much beyond the rate of increase in the number of autographed cards he has.

When looking at players whose autographed cards are in the upper echelon as far as price point, almost every single one was extremely expensive from the time his first (non-rookie) autographs were released. Pujols, Jeter, Arod etc. etc. At the same time there are players like Hanley, Vlad Guerrero and others whose autographs were cheaper from the onset, and they were never really able to pick up steam once a price has been established.

Look at how much autographs of players like David Wright and Evan Longoria go for and then analyze that next to how the players sold on release and you will see that this idea holds true pretty much across the board.

Sabathia and Teixeira can be had for under $15 each. Their rookie autos still sell well though.

All I have to say is buy buy buy. The day this guy is traded to a (back to) Boston or a New York, look out. He's one of the most severely undervalued superstars.

Agree 100%. I think he is the best buy in the hobby, both short term and long term. The numbers are insane and in my opinion will only get better as his body continues to develop. The new stadium will help too. No doubt he will eventually be on the Sox, Yanks or Mets in about 3 or 4 years, at which time he should be almost a lock for the Hall of Fame.

The only thing that could derail this guy is injury or scandal.

I never meant to indicate otherwise. Rookie autographs work differently. The OP was referring to Hanley's cards outside of his Rookie Autographs and the same idea applies to Teixeira and Sabathia.

The analysis of the market that I offered was specifically regarding post-rookie autograph releases.
