Why does Topps use silver stickers instead of clear ones?

Cause it's cool to be able to see your reflection on the card, and who doesn't like to blind fellow dealers at card shows by reflecting sunlight into their eyes?

I like silver stickers, plus I think autos look really good on them. Seem to hold up better. I also like certified topps on them as well.

Card collectors/dealers don't go in the sunlight

I don't know why, but I prefer the embossing on the sticker/card that DLP always used.

I'm not a sticker fan, but if I have to choose, I go with the silver sticker.

I hate seeing that translucent halo around an auto that comes with clear stickers. Don't try to hide the fact that it's a sticker. At least the silver stickers look both purposeful and apparent.

I have a solution to this problem, DO ON CARD AUTOS FOR ONCE TOPPS!

You must not have purchased any Topps Chrome, Bowman Chrome, Allen & Ginter, Topps Heritage this year.

As for the silver autos, they probably have a giant supply to go through before they make a switch.

The clear ones still has holographic elements but it's very subtle and looks awesome. See Topps Murad Basketball.

I too would rather have the clear stickers, especially when it is integrated well into the design.

It could be worse though....You ever see a lot of the Donruss releases? They moved to the clear stickers and alot are just stuck on the base card/insert design and you can barely see the autographs ::facepalm::
That's why Topps uses silver. If the card doesn't have a designated spot for the auto to show up, they use silver.

Problem is, a few of the signatures bubble because of the crappy surface, whereas the clear ones don't.Most of the Topps cards I have do have a designated place for the autograph, and would look much nicer with the clear stickers.
