I know the rule is that the starter cannot get the win if he does not pitch long enough for it to be an official game, but seeing it in action it makes very little sense to me. Lester pitched 4 innings (no-hit innings, ) leaves up 3-0 and does not get the win. Albers pitches 2 innings and gets the win simply because he pitched the 5th? Makes no sense to me.

How do they judge who the most "effective" pitcher is, since if one is ineffective then the effective one wins it.

This^, it's not because Albers pitched the 5th specifically.

What an ending. I've watched the replay 10 times and I'm still not sure if Encarnacion got his heel down before the tag. Either way, hell of a throw, hell of a block and a hell of a long time for Varitek to actually make the tag.
And that said, Patterson should've been rung up before he singled so I'm not upset.

Pitchers are credited for quality starts.. 4 Innings is not a quality start. Just the way the game works..

I don't know it's only been a rule for like 100 years now. So how many inn. Should a sp go to get the win? One, two three, four inn?
It's baseball the rules don't change, either accept or quit watching

Not that it matters, but I have absolutely no clue what you are talking about.

I was not referring to his pitching the 5th specifically, more that he pitched once it was already considered an official game. Seems to me that if you are going to pick "the most effective pitcher" or something along those lines, the starter should be included in the consideration.
