I think it's a physiological thing. They hope a buyer who really wants the card will see a very high BIN, and think it will take a little more to get it, so they offer more.

Maybe I'll offer 15% of that Sweet Spot Koufax, and see if he takes that.

Doing a bit of investigating into other BIN/bo deals the seller has made and that might let u know if what you are making is a feasible offer or an insult based upon past listing/selling habits. As lame as it sounds consider that some sellers use BIN to sell something quick at/near market value and other just drop the line in the water, open a beer and see what bites.
There's a sucker born every day, both buyers and sellers

It can work both ways. There was a logo auto from football I wanted, but the guy had a $600 BIN/BO... I'd was willing to go $175 but thought he had unreal expectations because of his BIN and he accepting an offer for $100.

I dont worry about insulting/lowballing..If a card is up at BIN/BO format that I really want, I usually start at market value - 10% and go from there to whatever I end up willing to pay. Personally, I love BIN/BO, because so many people are afraid to submit BOs, that you can get a great deal sometimes.

That's why not matter how outrageous it is, just offer what you want to pay, you really aren't risking anything but 10 seconds of time. I just think that it is why some sellers list things so high, but I understand how it might turn some people off.

I think one thing as a seller is that you don't want to put up too low of a BIN price and miss out on a higher possible sale. A lot of times I'll list something at double what I actually would be willing to accept for it, and then I just work with buyers to find a deal that satisfies both of us.

I just went through a washer ringer trying to sell my Porcello Chrome Gold refractor with BIN/Best Offer.

Started it high at over $200.00. Lowered it to $175.00 a few days ago and fielded about 14 offers. I counteroffered at $165.00 and no one accepted by auction end.

Just relisted it and will let it run 7 days starting at $.99.

Not worth the hassle of trying to make a few extra bucks.

*I just received an offer from one of the people that I counteroffered and they wanted to buy at $165.00 + off ebay.
Not going to happen...

Auction will run 7 days.
