Why was Aumont converted into a releiver?

I know it was done, at least to some degree, to fast track him through the minors. But hasn't he always been a starter? I haven't found any definite information on the topic, and would appreciate some facts or opinions!

There isn't really a whole lot to discuss on the topic. They did it because they felt it would get him to the majors sooner. I think in the end common sense will prevail as they have Morrow and Fields and shouldn't really be wasting their last 3 first round draft picks on RP. Don't need to draft a 7inning guy and an 8th inning guy...you're supposed to stumble across them.

My gut still says he starts. Maybe his cards slip to really low prices as people are scared off.

Probably to limit his pitches to give allow his elbow/arm to build strength after an elbow issue last season.

I don't think its that obvious. I think the Mariners are that dumb, and will have to learn over a period of time that he should be starting, similar to how they gave Morrow a chance late last season.

That makes sense as well...I mean this is the team that kept Kenji Johjima as the starting catcher last year as he posted an incredibly bad 64 OPS+...Yikes

Seattle is that dumb. I mean, why would you draft a catcher with your number 3 pick, then sign another catcher to a 3 year contract, then EXTEND that contract for another 3 years. Why would you give up on Adam Jones and two great pitching prospects for a so-so pitcher? Mariners are just idiots.

That trade was bad, but calling Erik Bedard a "so-so pitcher" is ludicrous.
