Wilin Rosario quietly putting up ROY type numbers

Bryce Harper will undoubtledly win the NL ROY for the shear hype behind him. However, Rosario has put up much better numbers then harper, while playing a premium postion at the same time. The numbers don't lie.

Wilin Rosario: .251 AVG 14 HR .542 SLG .822 OPS .280 OBP

Bryce Harper: .274 AVG 8 HR .471 SLG .819 OPS .348 OBP

Also, on how Rosario has stacked up against all the other cathers in the Majors:

Rosario's 14 HR is good enough for second among cathers (one behind Salty), even though he has 70 less AB's then most of the other leaders. He has followed that up with a respectable .251 AVG and .822 OPS; which puts him 6th among catchers. He still boasts a 25% K-rate, however if he puts up an .800 OPS the K's won't matter.

On the defensive he currently has 44% CS rate which is solid, however he has had the most Past Balls and Errors in the Majors so his defense needs a little seasoning.

Indeed Rosario is having a good 2012, improving impressively on his 16 games in MLB for 2011, however and even so, Harper is still flatout having a better year. Sure, Rosario is showing more power as you can measure with HR's and indirectly slugging, but Harper is still the more polished hitter with a better eye at the plate that has translated in to a better batting average, near identical OPS, and most impressively a commanding OBP over Rosario. Least we forget that Harper can steal a base, turn a double in to a triple, and is playing some quality defence. Point being, it's not 'Hype' winning the race for harper over Rosario, it's flat out game.

Neither winning is a foregone conclusion at this point in the season. Harper may not improve his numbers and the "he's only 19" arguement won't hold up forever. i would say that, if the numbers were to stay the same over the entire season, Rosario should win, and just might.

Loving his performance thus far. No real interest in his cards yet. I've had a few 'going rate' offers in the past which is fair and legit, but i'm hoping the wider market takes note.

Agreed, they have been undervalued ever since the product release. I am biased however, as I still have the 25+ Elites I bought in 2008.

OP - you are right, the numbers don't lie. Striking out 26% of the time and walking just 4.1% spells doom for Rosario's future consistency. Let's bump this thread at the end of the year and see where he's at.

BTW - How bout Andrelton Simmons for ROY? Much better production than Rosario at an even more premium position while playing gold glove caliber defense, maintaining a .310+ BA and striking out just 9.9% of the time. I'd take Simmons rookie production any day of the week over Rosario, who boasts only better power.

Are you serious. Just because he has more HRs and a slight edge in OPS, he has "much better numbers".

Edit, I don't think he is a rookie. He had to have spent more than 45 days on the Cardinals roster last year. Also, does postseason count at all?

well here it says he is a rookie but that doesn't make sense. He clearly spent more than 45 days on the Cardinals active roster based on his game log last year, which means he is not a rookie anymore.

I'm not trying to debate you, just understand. He made his major league debut on June 2nd and pitched all the way into August. Looks like he had 14 days rest (DL stint?) between his appearances in June, but even with the 15 day DL stint, that's over 45 active days on the 25 player roster.
