Not sure if anyone cares, but I have fun with this, so I'll keep adding some random cards every now and then.

This is a nice two-card panel with 2001 Topps Retrofractors of Will Clark and Billy Ripken's brother.

ToppsChromePanelwithRipken.jpg
I see a lot of these 2-panels show up on Ebay, but this is the first Chrome Retrofractor I've seen.

Anyone know the story behind these two-card panels? Aren't they printed on full sheets? Is someone trimming them down to these two cards, or are these some kind of proofs?

Sheet cut.

That's my assumption, as well. I don't pay much for stuff like that, but I got this cheap and think it's interesting.

When someone cuts cards from a sheet and calls it a "proof" is one of my big hobby pet peeves,

Yeah I used to pick them up as a novelty but kinda grew tired of them

1988 Fleer Sluggers/Pitchers. One of the dozens of box sets in the late 80s that were available at all sorts of stores. I remember buying a bunch of the 1986 Walgreen's set because it had a Jose Canseco rookie card. I think this is one of the nicer designs from 1988.

1989 Topps Big. I think this is a really nice looking set. I think Topps issued the Big sets for 1988-1990. They never really caught on, but they are actually nice looking cards with some good photography.

I'm sure I've posted these before, but they're a fun Will Clark item. I no longer own it, sold it a couple of year ago.....a Collect-A-Book prototype.

It is a great item. I wonder what the background is. Anyone know? Any other players have similar promos?

I have Collect A Book prototypes of Jose Canseco, Don Mattingly, and a few older players (Ruth, Ted Williams, Clemente), so I know there were more than just Will, but not sure of a confirmed player list. As far as background on them, the story I got from the guy that I first noticed listing them years ago was that they were basically "leaked" like all other prototypes, that they weren't supposed to hit customer's hands and he'd bought them from an auction of some kind. Was a typical story, but the story didn't matter much to me, I just wanted to make sure I had the card.

Not a surprise that you'd have more info on an unusual promo/prototype issue. I'd love to see scans of the others. I'm sure the guys in the Rickey thread would love to see it, too!

I thought you'd sold that one. I was just about to ask how much you ended up selling it for. May sell 1 of mine.

Wow with prices like these I have to reconsider selling some of my rare Clark items. $616 for a beautiful 2010 Panini Americana Century Collection Will Clark Auto Stamp 3 of 5. Looks like a couple of members here got into a snipe war at the end.

:( I wanted that one. I have the 1 of 10, so I thought I would go "all in". Guess it didn't matter much. Oh well, plenty more I need

Those sales really are crazy. I'd really like to have that card, but at maybe 1/10 of what it went for. Anyone know how that sale compares to other players?

Here's today's random Will Clark card. 1987 Fleer:

1987Fleer.jpg

I still rank this card in the top 10 cards released during my lifetime (before the auto/relic/"sick patch" era). Still love that card and as popular as it was, why can I not find one signed? I see 86,87 Topps and Donruss all the time but never a signed '87 Fleer

Sweet 2002 Originals!
