Jose Canseco, Mark McGwire, Jason Giambi, Fernando Vina, Cody McKay, Ron Villone, Kent Merker, David Bell, Ozzie Canseco, and Rick Ankiel. All of them were either implicated for, suspended for, or admitted to using PED's.

All of them were coached by Tony La Russa. Who know doubt will recieve strong consideration for the Hall of Fame. Will the black cloud over these players have any adverse effect on his chances?

Not a chance. The notion that steroids would negatively impact LaRussa and his entering the HOF is absurd.

So the black cloud that shrouds all the players from the "steroid era" will not have any impact on the coaches? Even a coach that managed three of the higher profile known users?

I don't think it should, but I'm afraid it might.

La Russa belongs in the HOF not for the players and teams that he had on the field, but for his strategy and ideas.

He should but won't. He knew but says he didn't. Great manager but not a fan of the man himself.

Does the same go for Joe Torre?

Manny, Giambi, Clemens, Pettitte, A-Rod, Sheffield.

He also managed Steve Howe, Darryl Strawberry and Dwight Gooden who were coke-heads.

I mean come-on, this is stretching it to say a MANAGER wouldn't get into the HOF because of a 'roid users.

I mean, is the STRATEGY that a manager implements on the field affected by 'roids? A manager is implementing his STRATEGY with what he has been given by the GM...should we leave GM's out too if they signed a 'roider?

Let's also not forget that managers are not voted in by the writers.

Ultimately, are managers suspended when a player is busted for 'roids? No, because it is not their responsibility to manage what an adult player does outside the clubhouse.

Larussa's blind eye to roids won't hold him back.. but his drinking related incedents should on character alone.. but the hall is already full of drunks anyway so even that won't.

I'm glad someone brought that up. LaRussa's already come out and said a couple times that he ignores anything he sees as if it never existed. I don't understand how people can think this isn't a big deal. Players are at the very least, 80% of winning. If a manager knows all his guys are cheating, and rides on their coat-tails to victory, that should knock him down a peg. Joe Torre hasn't been anywhere near as cocky as LaRussa with regards to not only hiding the truth, but protecting his players like they're children.

Obviously LaRussa will eventually get in, but he comes across as a sleeze-ball that only cares about winning.

As a manager, that better be the only thing you care about, otherwise, you'll be fired.

In the end, while Larussa may have turned his head to it, did he encourage the players to do it? Did he buy the steroids for the players? Did he GIVE them the steroids? No.

If Larussa was buying steroids and distributing them to his players, then absolutely he should be punished...but these players are grown men, it's not Larussa's job to monitor what they do off the field. And even then, if he calls them out for it, you think that he'd ever get him any respect as a manager from any player again?? Hell no. Look what calling people out has done for Jose Canseco.

No way. It had nothing to do with him taking steroids right? Saying this is like saying Joe Torre's bid will be hurt from the Yankee dynasty in the late 90s. DFor example, Shane Spencer, Chad Curtis, guys like this clearly took something and I am a Yankees fan lol.
