Was talking to a few customers about this.

If a BC auto SELLS for $50 raw, would you pay more or less for the same card if its graded BGS 9?

Personally, I pay a little bit more because the condition of the card is guaranteed, where as a raw card might have centering issues, or something to that extent. Also, it has been known to happen on occasion that the seller of a raw card shows a scan that is not the actual card. This has also happened to me with graded cards, but they overal grade was the same, but the subs were different.

Yes and it depends on the player. The better the player the higher the premium. Star rc 9's are very nice and will get a premium just about everytime. A guy from 09 BC should not really get a premium. Some people just prefer the guarentee on the card.

Lots of times when I buy singles, I buy them and look at grading them. If a card is already a 9, I can no longer do that so I pass.

This does not apply to cards that are already at peak or near peak values, then obviously I would pay more for the security of a BGS 9 holder.

I think it depends on the year of the card. The older the card gets, the more likely that it has been trimmed or altered. I would rather have one in a BGS 9 in that case.

I will pay more for Graded simply because I know the person can't trim it anymore in a bgs holder. A lot of time raw copy of auto blurry or dry ink the seller may alter a little bit just to make it look better. Worse is when someone actually cut the edge to make the card more center/mint.

yes, if it's an older card + 1 that's susceptible to trimming (say longo gold ref). also, i'll pay more for high 9s b/c they can be resubmitted/possibly subbumped. Not to mention, I've seen some very FIIIIIIIIIINE NINES :)

It all comes down to if you can hold the raw card in your hands. If you can inspect it yourself in person, then your good to go. Buy buying raw on the bay sometimes you don't know what your getting.

Only if the card originates from a condition sensitive set.

With BC, especially recent sets, I'd pay the same or a little bit more for reasons already mentioned.

But with something like EEE I'd comfortably pay 15-18% more for a 9. There's a reason there aren't a lot of those graded.

I agree with this. Though with B.Chrome I don't believe a BGS9 helps the SV in term's of the last 4-5 year's in this product. Alot of people will buy these to be graded in hopes of getting them "gemmed" (which then carry a premium). I've seen that most of these B.Chrome's (over the past 4-5 year period) that are graded BGS9 go for raw SV's or close to them (nothing that could really be considered a "premium"...but then again I'm not following every player so I guess it is possible?). :D

Or don't go for enough to cover the grading fees.

I was just looking at this today with 2008 Chrome Derek Holland autos. They don't command enough of a premium even in gem mint to cover the grading fee. Unless you go with a huge submission and longest return time to cut the fees down. As far as I was able to tell it's only worth it on 1) super hot cards, 2) low #ed parallels, or 3) older big name cards subject to altering.

I'd potentially pay a bit more for a slabed 9. I figure it's just as good as raw and has the added protection.

its funny, in the last year or so, its much harder to even find a BGS9 listed on eBay.

MG really has killed the BGS9
