Still taking Flores in this debate going back to the Appy. That is an outrageous contact rate for someone just turning 18 - plus Beckham's speed and defense are not playing well to this point.

i've seen beckham play, and flores is still farther from the majors, and harder to judge in my eyes, so for now, i say beckham

Due to the scouting report quoted above, I will have to go with Beckham! :lol: (just kiddin hambino ;) )...

In all seriousness I like Beckham more at this point as he seems more well rounded & closer to realizing his potential than Flores does at the moment! Now I'm not saying this won't change in the future but as of now my vote is Beckham's! :D

I didn't know Sir Wilmer was a knight?!?

I wonder if he is of the Flor lineage, a great family of warriors.

Re: Wilmer Flores of Tim Beckham?

Here's how I see it: Flores has a higher floor than Beckham, due to the fact that he is ahead of Beckham's current learning curve; I base that conclusion off of age (Flores is a year and half younger and playing at the same level), and contact rate/batting eye:

Beckham= 105 SO/477 PA: 22% SO rate
Flores= 61 SO/462 PA: 13% SO rate

With that said, I think that Beckham has a larger ceiling because he has a better shot at sticking at SS (although some think that he still may move in the future); he has better speed, and a larger range at short in any case. Flores profiles in the future as a power hitting 3B with good contact rates (think .300+), whereas Beckham profiles as a 25/25 threat with plus defense at short. In the end I will take Flores, a guy that has more time to refine his skills than Beckham does (in addition, Flores has much less pressure on him than Beckham does....As stated in the article from Sickels blog, Beckham has a LOT of money riding on him.)

Re: Wilmer Flores of Tim Beckham?

I think Wilmer is a better long term prospect due to a few things. 1. size.. he is a monster (met both of them) 2. attitude. Wilmer doesn't play with a sense of entitlement. I hate to say this, but I think Beckham could be (I said COULD BE) an attitude issue later on down the long (See Delmon Young in a lesser anger issue, and I called Delmon being a potential problem in 2003) Tool wise, Beckham made a few plays that were nice, but not that strong of a bat. I like Wilmer's power potential too.
