I'm always surprised that these guys go back home, if I was a somewhat rich well-known guy, I'd move my family to the US and never return. I know it's home but it's not like it's the first time bad things have happened to the families of the rich/famous in Venezuela.

This just makes me remember how lucky I am to live in the united states of America. There are times where we forget just how well off we are, and that we don't have to fear for our lives every day.

Agreed, I didn't think this was uncommon at all. Lots of stories about athletes and their family members being held ransom. He'll be fine, someone looking for a payday

I don't know if that is a fair assumption. From everything that I have read this is a very dangerous situation. Clearly the motivation in poor countries is always going to be financial gain and its almost guaranteed that, that's what's going on here. But I wouldn't just assume "he will be fine." What if these particular men aren't very forgiving or understanding, what if Ramos' doesn't have the cash on hand? Four men took him from his house at gunpoint. This is a very serious situation.

As for going back to your home country, sure its easy for us to sit here in America and say once we made some sort of money we wouldn't go back, but its his home land where all his friends and family are. These people love their countries and their families just like we do.

I'm amazed at how flippant some of you are about this. The man's life is very much in danger & people act like it's a movie...just pay the ransom. I'm surprised no one has said send in Bryan Mills to rescue him.

I'd send in Jonah Hill, he looked like he can handle his business in that COD commercial.

I'm not saying it isn't serious and scary, but it is not all that uncommon in this part of the world. From stories I've read and heard, its always on the back of your mind if you are into some kind of wealth. Its sad that in a way, there are plans in place to deal with and expect this kind of thing. Alot of people in wealth have so much pride for their country that they are willing to take these risks. 90% of the time, they pay up and everyone moves on. Emotionally things can remain out of place obviously, but its not an uncommon occurence.

I am pretty new here to FCB but I am shocked at the lack of class some of the people here have. This is in no way a joking matter. Zambrano's cousin was killed some years back for something like this so I'd say comments like "he'll be fine" are not necessarily true. Pray for the guy and show some compassion for him and his family.

If I were an MLB GM I would do everything in my power to keep my players in the US. I understand wanting to be near family and friends but it's too dangerous in these poverty stricken countries where you have desperate people willing to do absurd things.

Like I said, its a scary situation. But, its not uncommon, and almost all the time the people get paid and move on. The Zambrano situation was very sad, and a very uncommon outcome. Things can happen obviously, but most of the time the people at fault are in it for monetary gain and not blood. Your generalization of classless members here in my opinion isn't just. I've seen a joke or two cracked, but thats how some deal with situations in their own way. Nobody is saying that bing bang boom its all good, we're just saying its serious, but not on the same standards as if it happened here. Its not uncommon there, and the large majority of the time it ends up o.k.
