I'm always surprised that these guys go back home, if I was a somewhat rich well-known guy, I'd move my family to the US and never return. I know it's home but it's not like it's the first time bad things have happened to the families of the rich/famous in Venezuela.

Agreed, I didn't think this was uncommon at all. Lots of stories about athletes and their family members being held ransom. He'll be fine, someone looking for a payday

I don't know if that is a fair assumption. From everything that I have read this is a very dangerous situation. Clearly the motivation in poor countries is always going to be financial gain and its almost guaranteed that, that's what's going on here. But I wouldn't just assume "he will be fine." What if these particular men aren't very forgiving or understanding, what if Ramos' doesn't have the cash on hand? Four men took him from his house at gunpoint. This is a very serious situation.

As for going back to your home country, sure its easy for us to sit here in America and say once we made some sort of money we wouldn't go back, but its his home land where all his friends and family are. These people love their countries and their families just like we do.
Thanked. This happens all of the time in Colombia as well and they dont always go smoothly. Many times these situations end in death, even when payments are made. Im sure his family and friends dont share the same attitude.

That's not necessarily because of this news. An 8 dollar swing isn't anything to write home about.

I would say so, unless he was having a hell of a time in whatever league he is in.

Also the number of BINs being hit. Between the 3rd and 8th, not too many. Between the 9th and 10th, a ton.

I just talked to one of my buddies in Venezuela, he said they might suspend the league.

I know what you mean. Our criminals don't kidnap you to get your money... they run for office.

They do that in Venenzuela as well.

Apparently, Ramos was signed an autograph for a kid, when the kidnappers came up, held him at gunpoint, and forced him into the car.

Maybe the more press it gets, the worse the outcome could be. Someone offers a *** reward for the kidnappers identity. Scare the kidnappers. They could decide to back out and not have any witnesses.

Its mostly ESPN treating this like a little nothing story. We have in sportscenter 59 minuets of JoePA coverage, and a 1 minuet mention of Ramos. This appears to be a HUGE story in Venezuela, and its about a major league player so I think it deserves more than a one minuet mention

You cannot live your life in a bubble. It also isnt that easy. It takes years to become a citizen yourself, and after becoming a citizen it takes years to get your family here, family as in significant other and children. Forget about parents and other family. Most of these guys, especially the younger guys are here on work visas that allow them to be here during the season, once the season is over they have to leave. Most of the established veterans do end up getting green cards and reidency, but it is a tiely process.
