I'm all for helping members ,but the board is starting to fill up with these type of threads. Its amazing that someone is always willing to help a member in our community ,but I can see this getting out of hand and causing problems. I just don't want to see good members taken advantage of. I just feel like the threads lately are trying to bait members into buying a card for them. Save up and do it the old fashion way. You'll appreciate it more.

I was just thinking the same thing today.

I agree. I think it is one thing if someone buys something and contacts you to work out terms to buy it without your baiting because they know it's something you would want. That has happened with me before and I greatly appreciated it. But to solicit loans is a little much. It should not be done, and I know I have spoken to some members about not doing that.

THANK YOU!

You said exactly what I've been (apparently I'm not alone) thinking over the past few days. I didn't want to touch the topic and take the heat for "accusing" members of trying to leech or, as you said, bait others into buying cards for them or lending them money.

It's clear that the generous actions of a few have brought out those who feel they want in on the generosity. It's sad.

I feel bad. I feel like i started this whole rash of "loaning-to-purchase" thing back on the BMB when I asked and Kevbo helped me buy my Alcides Escobar Red refractor. It was two friends helping each other out, but i swear I didn't notice it nearly as much before I did that as i do now.

But I will say this: it's not going to be a problem until it becomes a problem. meaning; if no one want s to help these people out, then the threads will simply fade and we should be good.

I can see how it's a little off-putting though.

I agree, I know I've been on the receiving end of many generous member's gifts (Never sought out or asked) and I hope I have been equally as generous to other members as well. But posting these types of threads seems to dim the goodness and generousity of the members. It seems like every post that has a "Wish I could afford card" type post seems to be followed a week or so later with the collector receiving the card which is great to a certain extent but I agree it seems to be being abused as of late.

I am not saying there is anything wrong with members helping other collectors out but it seems sad that people make these posts with the intension of hoping someone will pick so and so card up for them.

I'm sure no one is going to go around buying things for people they don't know or trust. I'm personally tired of threads about how much a person is sick of other types of threads... there's a lot of bitching about what other people do around here lately. Can't we all just relax and pay no attention to what we dislike? It IS a message board, and we will never all love everything that comes through. I'm just a little tired of the "I hate when people post about this or that" posts is all. I know I'll get flack for this opinion, but I'm allowed to have it.

I don't think anyone is blaming you specifically, I know I'm not. Each person is responsible for their own actions.

There's nothing wrong with one collector reaching out a helping hand to another. ON THEIR OWN TERMS, IN THEIR OWN TIME (caps for emphasis to those who need it). But as we're seeing the problem is the evermore random threads popping up with members, kids and adults alike, asking for that helping hand to buy a piece of cardboard simply because they feel that there are those here who will do it. That's wrong.

I for one, enjoy helping with their collections more than working on my own collection, so I don't really mind them. If I see a post where I want to help someone, I will do so... Otherwise, I just pay it no mind.

As long as the item is a near one of a kind item that the person may never have a shot at again, I usually don't mind seeing the thread. It always helps if you are an actual member that contributes to the site and to our other fellow members.

I've never done this on any board but I'm of the notion that we're all "big-boy's & girl's" & it's really not like anyone is making another member give them thier money (unless I missed something?). So is this thread basically stating that "Freedom"cardboard needs another "rule" or is going to ban these post's of member's seeking help from other member's? Personally I thought that was what a community was for (to interact with other's whom share a common ground & occassionally helping those within that community when it is needed). I could agree that these may be annoying but then again so is the frequent whining we see posted to the board (not knocking anyone in general, just stating how certain post's may annoy those around us). Before you know it we're going to end up not being able to post anything without seeking approval by consensus or taking a poll first, to make sure the content doesn't "annoy" or "offend" someone else...I really think we're all capable of judging whether or not we want to lend $$ or help to other member's on the board... Just my 2-cent's though

That's cool. It seems other people see FCB less as a card collecting community and more as a bunch of people trying to pull a fast one... which I guess I am FAILING to see.

Not the case at all. What is the case, I am sure, is that there are some of us who see the potential for this and would like to bring it to light now....to avoid later issues that may occur.
