I for one enjoy helping with their collections more than working on my own collection, so I don't really mind them. If if see a post where I want to help someone, I will do so... Otherwise, I just pay it no mind.

As long as the item is a near one of a kind item that the person may never have a shot at again, I usually don't mind seeing the thread. It always helps if you are an actual member that contributes to the site and to our other fellow members.

That's cool. It seems other people see FCB less as a card collecting community and more as a bunch of people trying to pull a fast one... which I guess I am FAILING to see.

Not the case at all. What is the case, I am sure, is that there are some of us who see the potential for this and would like to bring it to light now....to avoid later issues that may occur.

I guess it is a matter of opinion. I've not seen any recent posts that seem in any way fishy or anything other than a collector asking for help from his or her fellow community of collectors. I would never ask of anyone here, but I don't judge others who do...

I've always hated those types of threads, even back in the BMB days.

It speaks volumes to the community spirit when guys like BigFan and flightpostie (and many others) TAKE IT UPON THEMSELVES to do something nice for a community member (who more often than not is a respected member), but the posts we've had recently are seemingly subtle hints for the same generosity to be extended to them.

I also am opposed to the "freebie" requests. I sent a member a freebie package a few weeks ago and he posted a thank you. Since then, I've received at least 5 PM's from members (WHO I DON'T EVEN RECOGNIZE) asking me if I had any free cards of so and so.

Thanks flight for the help [I know you spent the extra money wisely], now help me find and secure that Wes Hodges BC Superfractor that I have never seen or heard of being pulled.

I've had people that won prizes complaining because shipping was taking to long. I don't visit the PO every morning before I go to work. Freebies get there win they get there.

Ditto. There is a current member here who is blacklisted from ever any niceness from me because of an incident 4 years ago.

I can see where it can get out of control but, we're nowhere near that. I don't mind a post where someone asks another person to float a little paypal here or there. I don't even really see it all that much or maybe I'm skipping past those threads.

By the way AKA, how's it going with your ladies chair???

Too bad that was pre Santa-posite days... If I would have found it today, you would have probably gotten it for free, 8-)

What a headache. I've relisted it. The original buyer backed out.

I should clarify, since my original post makes me sound like a *****. I have no problem helping out another collector. In fact, I actively look for cards for prozac, ECC3, TNP77, Gary (Oil Can button is out there somewhere, I just know it!!), and a host of others. I do it because I know their needs and I WANT to help, not because they asked me to. I guess ultimately, I take issue with the posts asking for money or hinting to the community that they want a card (ie. hint, hint, someone buy this for me).

I don't see an issue with your mindset. In my opinion asking for free cards gives a very bad impression - even if you get your free cards, do you really want to damage your reputation with the giver?

If I recognize the person (and they've never done anything to annoy me), it doesn't bother me, but coming from someone I don't even know or someone who is new, it does.

Sounds like your still affected by prior negative experiences of having your generosity abused and/or not returned --- and rightly so,,,,,,,the fact your still stuck in the negative part of that experience is rather distressing,,,,,,

Just chalk it up to a learning experience and take the knowledge and use it for future reference,,,,, its over and done with and time to take back your own life instead of letting that negativity towards being screwed rule the present/future ,,,,,,knowing you from BMB-- your too good a hobby member to let those negative experiences ruin your hobby love,,, if they start affecting it--- time to step back away from the hobby for a while and get refreshed,,,,,,,its needed at times,,,,,

Who in the blue hell are you?

I'm not "affected" whatsoever or negative. I'm just stating my opinion relating to the OP and using real life examples to back it up.

~~Hey DMC, do you have any free Juan Gonzalez, Hunter Pence or Wendell Fairley autos? I hear you gave away some free cards, so I figured you would send some my way. Thanks man.~~

(And if you can't tell, that was pure, unadultered sarcasm. I know DMC, so I know he will see this post for what it is.)
