Any word on Ryan "Scooter" Gennett?

I know he signed with FSU, but any chance of him getting drafted high enough to turn it down

BA just had him rated as a 5th-6th rounder, so it'll probably depend oh how anxious he is to turn pro.

Ahhh thanks...I'm guessing he goes to FSU for a few years then....Whatever happened to Eric Erickson from UM?

Even though I don't think he will be taken too high(if at all) I am interested in Jake Locker.

I was just thinking about this today.

Also interested to see a couple of ACC guys, Kyle Bellamy, Tony Sanchez (I think he might slide into top 15 somewhere, kinda like Castro did last year), and Alex White (Bard like fall in the Cards??)

3 pages and no mention of Robert Stock? How the mighty can fall.

That said...I'm interested in seeing where the two Stock brothers are selected.

At this point, both brothers appear to truly want to be teammates for a season at USC considering when Robert left high school early he made that impossible at high school. Richard will be an incoming freshman next year, and therefore allowing Robert to enter the draft again as a young senior player in the 2010 draft.

The question is, will Robert be drafted as a pitcher or catcher? He wants to be a catcher, but his MLB potential is probably greater on the mound.

Pitcher. However, I seriously doubt he will sign no matter which position the team that drafts him will want him at. He'll want another year to revive his stock (no pun intended) after seeing it tumble as far as it did from three years ago.

Robert will definitely be drafted as a pitcher at this point. Sounds like from BA and PG that there really is zero interest in him as a position player - no one believes in the bat at this point.

But Robert is really interesting when you consider he is a 19 yr. old who has faced advanced competition in the Pac-10, and the fact that he isn't that much older than some of the prep players (still some projection there I would think).

I've brought it up multiple times in the past, but again, I'd love to hear from scouts what the difference is between Stock and Mesoraco in '07. It seems like the biggest difference is one was under the microscope and dissapointed, while the other was a late riser, who didn't give people the opportunity to be dissapointed...well till now.

Anyway, based on the article in BA, there should be a good amount of interest in Stock as a pitcher, probably just a matter of how signable he is.

Brett, I think you hit the nail right on the head. Stock has to his detriment, though for the good of scouts, suffered from what is sometimes referred to as "prospect fatigue" - scouts were on him so early and have watched his every movement for the past 5 years basically. They have seen the good, but they have seen the bad as well. And unfortunately Mesoraco wasn't seen enough to get a more clear picture of him, and I think that is playing out right now - that teams were buying in too high on him. I talked to a scout last year at the PG AFLAC Showcase that was held at Dedeaux Field and I brought up Stock, and even a year ago he was questioning his ability to hit advanced breaking pitches, as well as whether he had the bat speed to contend with big-league fastballs - not to mention he had some questions about his defense as well. He just painted this picture of a guy who had done absolutely nothing in college to show anyone any signs of potential as a position player.
But Stock is young, has a good arm, and still has a lot of projection left as a pitcher - it could be interesting in the long run.

After reading the BA article and looking at his numbers, I have Stock as one of my "sleepers" for the draft. I figure many people will think of him as a dissapointment, then once they see he's changed positions, they'll write him off. If that happens, I'll be looking to pick up some of his stuff, assuming he signs. The idea of Stock being a sleeper would seem so insane back in '07.

Could be a really savvy move on your part. I mean if his name wasn't Robert Stock and he wasn't thought of as a disappointment, and we just looked at the peripheries: FB sits low '90's, reaches 95-96; three-pitch mix; highly intelligent; 19 years old; and still raw and in his infancy as a full-time pitcher (therefore a lot of projection left) - I think people would be a lot more excited. Very good sleeper you have picked.

Hearing the Astros interested in Tate in the 1st round and he better hope so:

John (Marietta,GA): What are the ceilings of the two best high schoolers in GA: Donavan Tate and Zach Wheeler? And who are the sleepers in the High school ranks in GA who are creeping up draft boards?

John Manuel: Tate's stock is falling. Some teams have him No. 2 or No. 3 on their board, but that number seems to be dwindling. Football scholarship + some questions on the bat + $6 million price tag has equaled a softer Donavan Tate market. Sounds like there are two or three or maybe more landing spots, but we're hearing even some big-market, big-spending teams aren't on him. Lot of smoke out there on Tate. I've gotten Francoeur with better feel for hitting as one comparison, and Andruw Jones with less power and more feel for hit as another

Fran for 6 million Yuck !

It'd be really nice if we could land Purke but I don't see him going that late in the draft.I'd rather have him over Tate anyways.

Yeah...that second one is the article I was referring to.I wish I had save all of the stuff when Drabek and Kazmir and Beckett had gotten drafted. They had quite a lot of stuff in the paper about them back when they were coming through.
