1st - let me say that i would LOVE to have that card ... but Press Pass has an exclusive with TEBOW right now ... and they are making 3 sets this year - so TEBOW's will be aplenty for the next year. This card is NOT that rare.

Tim Tebow's value isn't contingent on future success.

He is one of the top college athletes of all time. College football is HUGE.

So is Ron Dayne.

::facepalm::

So is Archie Griffin, but neither of those guys are rookies like Tebow is.

This is going for more than some Jordan autos. He better be Ruthian to deserve this. I just cant see it happening.

For the sake of supply and demand...

This is just one example of many.

There are currently more Jordan autos available than their are Tebow, which I guess explains the price. Crazy.

So is Ron Dayne.

I agree, there are only a few players that have achieved his level of fame and popularity while still in college. Too be honest the only one I can think of is Grange.

Dayne?

Is the top rusher of all time not one of the top college athletes of all time?

No, that means he was a good running back, nothing more, nothing less.

That is ridiculous on a lot of levels......one being that a green auto sold for $165 just a couple weeks ago. Assuming there's nothing shady going on in the linked auction, whoever sold it for $165 has to be kicking themselves for selling a card like that 3 days BEFORE the draft.

Personally I hope people keep paying crazy money for his cards, it'll make for some added value in all the 2010 products.

Did someone say Ron Dayne?

Dayne.jpg

Seth I guess unless you live in Wisconsin (or are just a Badger fan in your case) you won't understand how big Ron Dayne was. His NCAA All-Time Leading Rushing Record may never be beat or if it is beat it won't be for a very long time.

Very true Dan. Regardless of popularity, I understood Gilmore's post as being one of the top (best) all players of all time. The text didn't allude to popularity in any way, which is why I was making a point about Dayne being one of the top players of all time. My sister was at Wisconsin when Dayne was there and he was no less popular in the state than Brad Pitt is today. If players' cards were truly valued on a scale of their greatness as college football players, because college football is HUGE, he would sell much higher. Tebow is an anomaly to me. It is his persona that attracts people and gives him star power.

If this card was being sold for his football skills and potential (in my opinion) it would be a $50-100 card at most. But that just isnt the case and wont be. As much as I don't like it, it is the truth.

you have to admit though, that those press pass autos do look VERY nice. Compare them to the hack jobs
that Panini has come out with and people realize that this might be the last time to get a decent looking
autograph. I saw a base PP auto at my store and it was marked WAAAY to high, yet I almost bought it.
A day later it was gone and sold for their asking price.

I'll also agree college FB is crazy.

Obvious shill as Gellman stated but Ron Dayne lol.
Years from now Tebow will be really admired even more. I think his faith that the media has made a big deal of has turned some people off. That being said he is probably one of the top 5 college athletes of all time. I think as a generation watching him people become immune if you will to what he has done on the field. Our kids and our kids kids will really be reading about him and wished they had seen him play

I wont, I dont, and I disagree. Thats all I can say. Clearly you saying LOL to Ron Dayne is just how I react to Tebow. I couldn't give two shats about him. Watch some highlight reels of Dayne, and tell me after who wouldn't want to see him play.

Ignore the few Texans highlights and watch the plays of the all time leading college rusher. Then LOL. If we are talking about greatness, how is Dayne an "LOL". I am talking pure football here. What kid sees this tape and doesn't wish they could see him play? I would much rather seen Dayne take handoffs than Tebow.

By the way, I was at that '99 Rose Bowl against UCLA. Watching greatness.
