picked this up for $42.90 dlvd via the BIN. the 62 topps set is by far my favorite angels issue of all time due to the fact that since they debuted in 1961, it truly represents the inaugural team. with this purchase, i have decided to go after the entire 62 team set in psa/dna slabbed form. i know quite a few players are deceased, so this is going to be a long term project. i already had these is my collection so i am off to a pretty good start.

What a great project!

I, for one, am hoping to see you complete it!

The Daddy Wags is really nice; never seen his sig before.

The Albie is a personal favorite, too.

Good luck and keep us posted on your progress. :)

thanks andrew! funny thing is the only reason why i stumbled across the wagner is because i have been searching for his 2009 sweet spot auto #/18. that usually goes for $50+, so for $42.90 i'd much rather have the sig on a vintage card. as for the albie, i have a soft spot for that one as well...he was my g'ma's favorite player and she still talks about him to this day. a few year's back i picked up a b/w 8x10 which is signed by wagner, pearson and al kaline for $20...one of these days, i need to pop it in the scanner.

How many Angels cards total in the set?

haven't even bothered to look but i'm figuring 20-25. i am in it for the long haul so i am going to be a little picky when it comes to the quality of the sig and the condition of the card itself. i don't expect them to be ex/mt+ or better, just looking for well centered copies with good eye appeal.

Glad to see you got one from Mickey's. To answer your question about how often they update, its usually once every few months but some sets seem like they never get new things in. I would definitely think about getting their Steve Bilko as its a decent price for someone who died 30+ years ago. For the most part their prices are reasonable especially when you can get living players for less then the price to PSA/DNA yourself.

thanks again talmer! i have thought about biting the bullet on the bilko but i am trying to knock out a few of the more prominent guys first. that way if i never complete the set, at least i will have guys who played a significant part in angels history. the one that is going to be a toughee imo, is the belinsky rc...damn yankee fans :P

Would love to see that 8X10!

Have you read the book, "Once They Were Angels" by Robert Goldman?
Fantastic book, with individual chapters devoted to classic Angels. There is not only a Pearson chapter, but also a Fregosi, Chance, etc. Highly recommended book. The author has a website devoted to the book where you can purchase a signed, personalized copy.

Here is mine:

I have a beat up Fregosi rookie in my collection, but someday will get a nice graded one. Am looking toward adding to my oddball Fregosi collection. Scottopotamus just sent me a PSA 9 Fregosi Milton Bradley game card! :o

By the way, here is the link to the website of the author of Once They Were Angels. Great book!
