I though it might be fun to compare redemption horror stories and to see and maybe vote upon who has gotten
screwed the hardest in regards to redemptions...either expired cards or awful replacments. I will go first.

2000 something I pulled the redemption for a Joe Dimaggio autograph poster. I sent the card in and they sent me
back 5 packs of SPA baseball with a note saying they didn't have the poster because they lost them in a flood.

Of course I have seen these cut up for legendary cut products.

anyone else?

Kevin
I had a similar but different redemption story. I won the same redemption for the same poster for 150. A good friend did too. After a while he got a Giambi 8x10 auto in the mail and i got on the phone asap. I told the rep that i would only take a couple of different thing. After a while i got a package with a #d Bonds auto but when i picked it up there was a 2001 Ultimate Collection Ichiro Rc auto. They gave me both of my choices. I have never been happy with their later products but i have to give them credit here. (the Ichi was a rougher copy - prob a bgs 7 with a 7 - 8 auto but still a sweet card)

I had an ex Maddux jsy button auto /6 due to me from fleer, then they went bankrupt and I got a calvin booth auto and schilling jsy card from the Fleer settlement company. I might be a close second to yours. ::facepalm::

I've had 2 bad ones myself. The worst... I always wished my player had a letter type set so I could put together his name like everybody else got to do with their players. Finally UD released one, but in redemption form. The problem was the redemptions didn't say which letter you were getting, so I got 12 of them thinking they would probably give me 5 "S"s and 1 "A" even though there are 3 in Sabathia. So I got a couple extra thinking I'd probably have to sell a couple and buy a couple. They were never made. Meanwhile there was also an Ultimate Auto #/25 that was a redemption, I got a pretty good deal on a couple of those. So I was sitting there waiting for 14 CC redemptions which set me back ~$450. They sent me these...

screwed.jpg

I was so pissed. The main problem was that they sent 100's of these out at the same time, so ebay was flooded with them, and they were going for ~$8. Pissed. I called UD and they weren't going to do anything. I said "I collect baseball cards, and these aren't even baseball cards." They said they were because they were distributed in pack form. ::facepalm:: I said it's messed up that they would send me 14 of the same thing, even if I was a good sport and tried to sell or trade them, 14 of the same!? Really? He insisted that I was waiting for 14 of the same card, and couldn't be reasoned with. We had a big argument about cash value and book value. It's crazy, Beckett put a BV of $35 on the Sabathia Letters that were never made. How does that work?

I finally filed with the BBB, and after I paid $15 more to ship them back those huge "cards", they sent me this stuff:

400sabathia.jpg

So I paid $450 for a bunch of crap I don't collect and would never buy. This is why I rejoice to see the woes of Upper Deck.

---

Before that I was also part of the Fleer/ARA thing. A remarkably similar situation. I always wished one of the 3 dudes I collect would have a sweet spot auto (to this day none of them do) but CC came pretty close. Fleer was going to do one, and for a mere $60 I won the redemption for the 1/1 Masterpiece. I also won 2 of the lesser version which would be #/52. Instead I got these:

AcRAppyday.jpg

Same story, bunch of crap I don't collect. And you had to actually send the redemption in to Fleer, so I don't even have that, just this scan.

ccmaster1.jpg

I hold on tight to that scan, basically paid $60 for it.

I mainly blame Topps though, because my first redemption experience was through them. I won a 2005 Topps Rookie Cup Original Relics F 335 #/7 and they sent it to me in a couple weeks. Suckered me into thinking redemptions weren't bad.

I had sent in a Fleer redemption for a 1 in 10 chance to meet and shoot around with Vince Carter. A dealer friend of mine (RIP) had given it to me for my birthday. I can't remember the exact product it came out of, but I do remember it stating that one lucky person would win the big prize and all others would be sent an auto'd Vince Carter item (i.e. photo, shoes, bball, jersey, etc.) It was a very interesting contest to say the least, especially since Vince was on fire ! Anyway, Fleer goes under and what do I get in return ????

Denny McClain Fleer GOTG Auto......... Dinged !!!

I have the worst one ever.

2001 Topps Tribute- Redemption for an original Topps Ted Williams card. These were selling for $500+ on ebay. I redeemed it instead.
This is what they sent me:

I've actually never been screwed on a redemption. Every card I've redeemed has been the card it was supposed to be. I guess my worst experience was waiting FOREVER for my mystery redemption from UD. It turned out great in the end though.

Right now, Topps owes me an on-card auto of Anderson Silva (mma fighter). They recently sent me a mail saying that it is over the time limit and I can choose a replacement if I want. I ignored it because I will not accept anything other than that card. We'll see how this turns out.

Upper Deck is the absolute worst.

I had a Smolts low numbered auto redemption back a few years ago, and after waiting several months I get an email saying it will not be made and to call 'this number' to make arrangments for a replacement. Long story short, the replacements were not worth the cost of postage, and within a month after that I started to see the very same card pop up on ebay. I contacted a couple of the sellers and was confirmed that they indeed got them as redemptions. I called back the CS rep and told them the story and my displeasure with being lied to. I was then told that I should have waited longer and would have gotten the card like the others, when I tried to explain to them that I was told that it was not being made and HAD to get a replacement the CS rep flat out called me a liar. I forwarded him the e-mail I received stating so and never heard back......

But I dont really hate them for this, all companies CS is terrible to the same disturbing degree at times.

The worst one for me was another Fleer Bankruptcy screw job. - Sent in a Brett Favre Auto Redemption and got a Donavan Mcnabb Jersey instead.

great storeis, I knew the Tex 5X7's would show up sooner or later.

Kevin

Yeah, when I opened the thread I thought it might say "Who was the guy that got all those Tex 5X7's?"

I try to tell my story a lot, mainly just so that young entrepreneurs on the board understand why it's so important to treat your customer right.

I do still have them. I couldn't even give the Smoltz away. There was a guy who had the SMOLTZ letterman sig, but he was missing the S. I shot him a PM and offered to send it his way, but he said he'd hold out for one where the auto wasn't upside down. Thanks UD.

My worst would have to be a 06/07 SPA hockey triple auto of these retired Montreal Canadians (LaFleur and I can't remember the other two) /25. I was willing to wait for it and UD decided to send me a replacement without even asking what I'd like. They sent some octo jersey card from Parkhurst (half Bruins/half Canadians) and the letter stated they were of equal value. Whatever. I would much rather have a triple auto over any regular jersey type card.

The part that pissed me off more was that I had a redemption for some scrub rookie auto that I never asked anything about too and they waited 3 YEARS before finally sending me the card. They could've done the same damn thing with the triple auto. They could've stuck three different colored stickers on there and I would've been happy.

I bought a box of fleer greats of the game pulled a redemption for a phil rizzuto autograph, but since i recently bought it i took the risk of hitting the redemptions, i called UD to see if they would even send me something in place of it, they said they couldnt do anything about it... but it was worth a shot i guess... i got nothing in a box of 2011 goodwin i bought now im nervous so see what they might send me, if they even send me anything worth my time...

I have two...

1) Sent a Yogi Berra autograph redemption to Upper Deck and instead received three packs of Upper Deck Hockey! ?!!!?? Called in, waited on hold forever, spoke to Customer No-Service and they said they would make it right. Another month passed and nothing. Called Customer No-Service again, waited on hold...they said they would make it right... They sent me three more packs of Upper Deck Hockey!!! De ja vu :-( Needless to say... I gave up

2) This was back around the early to mid 90's. I cannot remember the company name. They were selling some "Shoebox" type of boxes. I think it was Classic / Ken Goldin type of thing. They had random redemptions in them for autographed memorabilia. I got a Hank Aaron autographed baseball redemption... They went bankrupt. I got nada!
