My question is, "Where are the silent Alex Rios, Corey Patterson and Brandon Wood purchasers?"

Is Alex Rios the same as Alexis Rios? The guy with the 2002 Elite rc? I bought one for $90, once

Brandon Wood? You mean the guy with the 40-something home run season that convinced me to sell the savings bonds (some prematurely) that my grandmother had purchased for me? To buy a PSA 9 for $125, a PSA 9 refractor for $175, and a PSA 9 X for $230?

Happy, Mike?

UGH
I just remember the greedy bastards waiting for the Rios Elites to reach a $100 more before they were going to sell. I laughed a lot quietly, and some out loud. That was a prospecting blood bath of epic proportions. And as for Brandon Wood, it's amazing what one huge season will do for a player in the Cal League.

But seriously, sorry that you got hammered on that deal.

Anyone remember the member of either BMB or FCB (perhaps both) who turned down something like $7500 for a Felix Hernandez 1/1?

Ahhhh the 2004 Bowman Sterling Red 1/1. Non-Auto. How much do we think that card would fetch today? It's a nice card to own, if I were in the market for it and I had the cash I dont think $1500 would be out of the question.

Worst move i've made. Anyone care to take a stab at what this would bring in auction today?

Cleaned up the thread a little.

My top busts would be Glen Perkins (just a real dumb gamble on my end) and a few phillies like Marlon Byrd and the like...

Should add Gavin Floyd to that list but i'm probably even at this point.

Michael Bowden (I was split 50/50 on him and Buccholz back in 05 ::facepalm:: )
Jon Egan (I thought he had gotten past his issues, oops)
Justin Masterson (will have a decent career but once he left Boston his value was eliminated)

Joel Guzman. Beckett still has him listed quite high however.

Mine are Michael McCardell, Anthony Swarzak, and Brent Dlugach. The McCardell started after pulling one of his auto gold refs, not sure why I started buying Swarzak's. And Dlugach was due to pulling a orange, gold, and xfractor from a case. I thought he would pan out since he quickly jumped up to AAA. Win some lose some.

Beckett's pricing is an ugly cycle.

Hobby stores leave prices on the cards until Beckett changes them. Beckett doesn't change them out of lack of updated information, lack of drive or forgetfulness.

I'm pretty sure Keith Ginter was a Top 10 prospect after his ridiculous season at Round Rock.

I bought ten PSA 9's for $24/each

Whoops

Jason Hart!!!!

Awesome memory JP. For those who don't recall, he was the most expensive card in the 2000 Bowman Chrome set...by a long shot.

To add to the 2000 memories...Richard Stahl from Topps and Nick Neugebauer from base Bowman were big misses for me.

You probably outbid me on that. In hindsight, thank you

I spent every weekend during the summer of 2000 going to Midland. I was already a huge A's fan, and Hart was mashing for the Rockhounds. I spent a ton on his stuff. $175 for his Retro/Future ref

And Mike, you're contractually obligated to mention Bobby Bradley when talking about guys from 2000

Actually I bought it at a card show. I believe it may have been Nats when it was in Cleveland.....2001, I think? I remember the dealer refused to budge an inch on the price. I eventually caved.

The only good thing about the show itself was getting to meet Trish Stratus.

The thread was "Top 10 Prospects" so I failed to mention my misses because I rarely went after high pedigree guys.

But boy was I going after Bradley's stuff.

I thought Rick Asaadorian (sp) was the man in 00 BC...
Asadoorian was the man in Stadium Club, but by the time Bowman Chrome came out, he had plenty of other cards - Topps, Topps Chrome, Finest, Topps Tek, etc...

Hart's were booking at $25 or so, with no one else coming in at $10 even if I remember correctly.
