I dont sell, but I often trade or giveaway cards to player collectors.

Yes, I have done it in the past. I knowingly sold a card for $500 less than I could have gotten to a hardcore player collector.

What specifically drives me nuts is when a seller's ignorance about a card is the only reason why s/he let the card go so cheaply. In other words, had that seller not been ignorant, the seller wouldn't have let the card go so cheaply. It is this ignorance that drives me nuts. I'm only talking about ignorance.

All the many other reasons you're referring to below don't really bother me too much and are probably good reasons in a hobby community.

So to get at your point...there can be many different reasons why a person sells something to another or gives it to them.

Sure, three obvious situations.

First, some releases are rare enough and the seller just missed the boat/doesn't know about the card or set. Certain cards may be short-printed and maybe there is no mention of it anywhere; only those who actively collect that card/set or a particular card from that set would know. Perhaps the seller didn't even think to look up approx. BV.

Second, some sellers just don't know how popular some players are, particularly when these players are young and jump to conclusions.

Third is some combination of nos. 1 & 2. Someone may be hoarding a particular card from that set, etc.

To say that every seller knows the ins and outs of every card and every set all the time, is, well, pretty silly, isn't it?

Perhaps I just happen to be into different cards than you are, some may never come around again if missed the first time. Not getting a fair chance at a card gives one license to be upset about it.

I can understand and agree with that.I will say though that I try not to let it bug me.I really don't run into too many of those situations you spoke of above but then again...like you said...I don't collect the same types of cards you do.I think if I did it would bother me a whole lot more.

Its what helps to make the hobby addicting and expensive for some of us but I can completely understand why some might find it ridiculous.

I sometimes wish there was a 'banging head on the wall' emotocon in additon to the face palm the ::facepalm:: after witnessing some deals.
