I sold two German Helmets almost 3 months ago to a guy in Canada on Ebay. He paid 1100 for both and wanted Priority International on them,No proplem. Today he files a claim stating not recieved. I asked why he waited almost 3 months to say something. His response is actually pretty funny, "I thought they came in honestly, Could of sworn I had them in another room with stuff. But they're gone now, So I guess they didnt come in and I was mistaken". But the best is for some reason the number I have and thought was for tracking, Is not a tracking number. Just a cert of mailing. When I shipped them, Certain Flate Rate boxes for international were not trackable. Looks like, I am screwed for 1100 bucks now.

But would you wait that long after dropping a grand? I thought there was a time limit to file a claim honestly.

3 months roughly translates to 90+ days, or >45 days. I believe that is the maximum amount of time one can file a claim? Then again, I do not know what the limit is on the new eBay Protection Program.

I personally ask, at 1.5 weeks after making payment. Then again (if no response), at 2 weeks.

This is from the Buyer protection FAQ on eBay

Is there a time limit for a buyer to place a claim?
Generally, buyers will have 45 days from payment to file a claim—the same as with the current PayPal dispute resolution system. Exceptions may be made based on factors such as member account information, listing information, item location, and shipping method.

Never ship anything internationally that you can't track, unless you can stomach taking it on the nose if you get an unscrupulous buyer. You have to do your due diligence on making sure you can prove it went from your hands to his hands. Sorry for your loss in this, but it's a tremendously valuable lesson to learn.

I thought they only had 45 days.

Thats what a few people have told me, But they have a hold on the money now.

Why did you still have the money in there 3 months later??

Also, why did you not have any tracking/insurance on a $1200 package?

I learned a great one, Now honest people in Canada can not buy from me.. I didnt realize it wasnt a tracking number they gave me. I hope they dont take the money from me though. If they do, I will probably be done with ebay for a while.

It wasnt 3 months, In my anger about it. Misread the date on the transaction.. USPS for some reason didnt offer tracking on the box I used, The site even states this and I was dumb and didnt research it. The number that I was given was only to show proof of mailing and thats it... As for keeping money in my paypal, I usually do that if I dont spent it.. Stopped collecting and selling for over a year and left a couple hundered in my paypal the whole time. Paypal is my card/WWII money and I usually just use it for that.

Yeah that really sucks. I will leave about $100-$150 in my paypal, but anything above that i pull it out right away and into my checking account, have just heard too many bad stories with paypal over the years. I don't trust paypal with my money. Well i will wish u luck, but it really sounds like there is no way u will win this case.

You should tell us this guys ID, so we are aware.

I thought insurance was required on a sale this high. Then that high of insurance requires a signature upon delivery. Then again I could completely wrong.

Same thing happened to me. Sold a kobe bryant exquisite auto patch on ebay to a buyer in taiwan. Filled out the customs form which I thought had the tracking # but I was a proof of mailing thingy. Buyer claimed they never got it and filed a claim 1 month later. Paypal took out $850 from my bank account and refunded the buyer. That was the LAST time I ever ship internationally. Basically when paypal holds the funds, you lose already.

A signature is only required if the seller wants to protect him/herself. Clearly not everyone understands Paypal's limitations even though they are clearly stated throughout the site.

I can't even fathom the "why" in this fiasco.

Sorry to hear dude. I never ship internationally for anything worth over $20-$30 because of just this type of thing.
