If these are in fact new boxes, another 40 or so new refractors in circulation may have a noticeable affect on the overall '93 ref market.

Do you think before you type?

" Each sealed box also contains an oversized All-Star Refractor. "
WRONG!
These oversized (approximately 4" by 6") cards were inserted one per sealed box of 1993 Topps Finest packs and feature reproductions of 33 players from that set's All-Star subset (84-116). Some hobby dealers believe because of the known production numbers that slightly less than 1,500 of each of these cards were produced
What's he wrong about? The refractor part?

You're a smart guy.

Nope, I guess I don't.

But 40 of the right cards *can* make a noticeable difference especially given the hoarding associated with the set.

Because of the distribution patterns of the refractors, didn't many 6-box cases contain primarily the same refractor is each box? ie, if you pulled an Eric Karros refractor in the first box, you would very likely get another 4-5 more Karros in the same case? Have these boxes been "searched" because they aren't in a sealed case?

Or perhaps, this batch for sale has many of the "SP"s in them, even though they weren't technically "sp"s but were simply cards that hadn't surfaced yet.

In a twelve box case we pulled 9 Alex Cole and 3 Tony Gwynn.

SPs are sitting in hoards, I have a few. The hoarders are known in the 1993 refractor world.

Just my two cents, but why would the seller break the boxes out of the cases if he were planning on holding on to them for a while. Seems they would be worth more ( and less likely to be damaged ) if they were still in the factory case boxes.

Supposedly he was trying to collect one of each box with a different chrome card on the cover. Topps glued a base card to the front cover of each box. It sounds a bit ridiculous, but I do remember boxes of the better players being rather desirable back in the day.

I envision a whole lot of packs for sale on eBay, after he opens all of the boxes and cherry picks the "refractor packs".
